Exams Due on Jobs In North port Hosp ital App lications for examinations for three position * at the Veter- an* Administration hospital in Xorthport are being accepted by the Civil Service commission. The posts are : Dental hygienist. $:! , - 175 :t year: inorjftie attendant , $2 , 950 a year; X-ray technician , $. \ . , 175 yearly. Information and applications may be ol-tained from the hos- pital. Village Reaches Cont'd from page 1, this section said such a least- would he ''high- ly inconceivable , \ since the lease in <|iie. stiori wii.s only a five-yea r lease , and declared that he was \ worn out after two years. \ \We might as well give up the idea , \ \V a 1 d b a u e r continued , \that there ' s going to be a parking lot •on Oak street. Trustee Wald- bauer said he regretted that a recent story in The Advance had informed the public that there was going to be a municipal parking field on the site , because , he said , \the public will be dis- appointed. \ Trustee Roe had been the .source for the story in this newspaper . Mayor George E. Lechtrecker informed the board previously of the stumbling block in the vil- lage ' s plans for parking lots , and the Trustee replied that the prop- osition had never been actually put to his father. Mayor Lech- trecker declared that \ there may never be an ' acceptable ' lease \ on the property. Village Attor- ney Norman Lechtrecker said that he had been notified of no changes in the lease , and urged that some understanding be reached on the property to avert rt further waste of time. Meanwhile , the boani will go ahead in completing the Schmidt property parking lot , and the Prudential theatre property on Oak street in order to accommo- date the summer rush. The Roe property has been temporarily dropped. Trustee Waldbauer was authorized to renegotiate the demolition of buildings on those two properties. Also at the Monday night meeting, ' the board: 1. Discussed the possibility of erecting lights at the Shore-front park for athletic events , on the request of Peter Pou ' ios , v?ho spoke on behalf of the Patchogue Businessmen ' s Softball \ associa- tion and the Brookhaven Town Police Athletic league. The as- sociation , he said , would offer \backs and shovels to do much of the grunting and groaning \ to cut expenses , and several offered equipment to assist. The hoard referred the matter to the rec- reation commission. 2. Appropriated $100 as :i maximum price to erect a back- stop for the new baseball dia- mond at Waverly park , behind the Patchogue-Plymouth mill. 3. Appointed Trustee William Kewham to investigate the pos- sibility of a new mooring sys- tem at the Mascot doc k at the foot of South Ocean avenue. 4. Heard a report from Vil- lage Treasurer Charles G. Yax that the village will \ skin by \ without borrowing money until the tax influx. 5. Au thorized use of the Lake Street firehouse two nights a week by the Brookhaven Tow n Police Athletic league for shuffle- board play, on a trial basis. The move had been approved by the fire council. 6. Authorized completion of landscaping at the municipal garage at a maximum cost of ?550. 7. Authorized the purchase of a two-meter diving board , an all-steel water slide and install- ation of a dance Boor at the vil- lage swimming pool at a total cost of $00:1.78. The measure will provide more recreational faci- lities for the youth of the com- munity, the board felt , and will make the pool ground more at- tractive in bad weather. Cont'd from page 1 , this section 3975 , the library should have a minimum of 70 , 000 boohs , the survey recommends , based on projected population estimates of 45 , 000 in the school district. The expansion progra m for the present library should be a 10- year projected program , the re- port suggests , since the branch plan will probably be the one followed by the library. A larger central library plant is . suggest- ed , with an increase in space from the present 5 , 000 square feet to 12 , 000 square feet recommended in the report. The survey recommended that, the present plant be demolished , and replaced , but the board gave that recommendation no iuither consideration , because of the ex- pense involved. Cost of an addi- tional 7 , 000 square feet would be in the neighborhood of $'40 , - 000 , with alteration of the pres- ent building sot at $30 , 000. The proposal for expanding the building would include a side- walk leve l entrance ' portion , ad- jo ining a lobby, adult lounge and the main charging desk; a two- level addition in the rear, hous- ing the main book collection , reference and reading areas , office and work space. The lower floor of the present building would be used as a meeting and stor v hour room. Th upper floor of the ex- isting building, with minor al- terations , would be the new chil- dren ' s department. Total cost of the program would be $216 , 000.
