PAU I- .S7.J VFW PRESENTS AWARDS TO DRUM CORPS AT BALL Henry J. Jones post , Veterans of Forei gn Wars , enjoyed a very successful dance at the Veterans hall last Saturday night. There was a large crowd who enjoyed dancing to the music of the \Colonels. \ The boys and g irls of the VFW Drum and Bugle corps , dressed in their new uniforms , performed , with musical selctions and drill , to the delight of all present. Edward Kriedemaker , director , was in command. A number of awards and advance- ments among the members of the corps were announced. Dolores Rice was made a ser- geant drum major; Linda Bauer , a sergeant twirler; Louis Levite , a corporal drummer , and Robert Bello , a corporal bugler. They are all from Coram. John Barry of North Patchogue was made a sergeant bass drummer; Barbara Carlson of Farmingville , a cor- poral glockenspiel. The following from Medford were also promot- ed: Janice Mazzoni, sergeant glockenspiel; Carole Lee Ellis , private 1/c glockenspeil; John Jacobi , sergeant bugler ; Joseph Hodl , and George Somma , cor- poral buglers. All received chev- rons to show their new rank except Dolores Rice , who was given collar insigne. During the evening a roto- broil roaster was given to Mr. Fingar of Coram and a pop-up toaster to Mrs. Josephine Som- ma of Medford. Sal Mazzoni was chairman of the dance , and Mrs. William Gabelman , Mrs . James Connelly and Mrs. Henry Hewett assisted in serving refreshments. Other members of the dance committee were Commander James Connel- ly, Eugene Kiernan , James Flan- nery and John Junsen. The annual installation of offi- cers of Henry J. Jones post . and the Ladies auxiliary will be held at the Veterans hall April 30. The post will meet April 27 and tne ladies April 28 , to make linal arrangements tor the event. * * * Mrs . W. D. Warne r celebrated her birthday A pril 12 at her home - in the company of her im- mediate family. Guests included Mr. and Mrs . Robert Sauberlich , Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Theis , Mr. Warner and daughter , Nancy. Saturday night , the Warners were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stewart in Sayville , where the members of the Saturday Night Card club also celebrated the event. The members of the Ladies ' aux- iliary to the Medford Fire de- partment will meet at the fire- house tonight. Plans will be completed for the auxiliary ' s an- nual dinne r , Memorial day ob- servance and other spring events. The members of the Medford Girls ' 4-H club met at their leader ' s home Saturday to com- plete their annual clothing, arts and crafts and home grounds improvement records for the year. These will be sent to the Suffolk County club office , and credited to the annual p roject completion records of the year. Since the ABC' s in cooking class had to be cancelled in January, this will be given on May 14. This is for the girls who joined the club last September , and any other member who wishes to re- view the class. All clothing work is completed. The girls will take their garments to Coram for judging next month. The annual dress revue will be at Smithtown on May 21. Some textile paint- ing or shell work may be done after school closes in June in time to exhibit at the summer fair in August. Girls who wish to finish their basketry handbags should get in touch with Mrs. Theis. They should be lacquered and lined. Last Wednesday the ladies of the Medford Home bureau began a class in Swedish darning, mak- ing handbags. Mrs . Paul Wille is the instructor. The group will not meet again until May 10. Choir practice will take place tomorrow at 8 p. m. in St. Mark' s Episcopal church , Jamaica ave- nue. Saturday, acolytjes ' practice will be held at 9:30 ai m., follow- ed at 10:30 a. m. by Churc h school. The Sacrament of Pen- ance will be administered from 6 p. m. Sunday, at 9 a. m. the priest-in-charge , the Rev. Ed- mond T. P. Mullen , will officiate and preach at Morning prayer and Hol y communion. Evening prayer and \Question Box \ will be held at 7:30 p. m. Monday, St. Mark' s day, the patronal fes- tival will be observed by a Eu- charist at 9 a. m. There will also be a mass next Thursday at 9 a \. m - The annual spring card party will be held by the Medford unit of the Brookhaven Memorial hospital Women ' s auxiliary at the Veterans hall tomorrow night. S-*7M_t BOY SCOUT TROOP 40 GETS 2 FIRSTS AT RALLY The Boy Scouts of Troop 40 , under the leadership of Charles Tomesch , their Scoutmaster , re- ceived two firs ts at the Centra] District rally held last Saturdaj afternoon at the Lake Ronkonko- ma school. They received second place in the entire rally of 15 troops , losing out to Rocky Point by only two points . They were awarded a large trophy for receiving second hon- ors and were also awarded twe cups for first place in signalling and knot tying. Scouts who participated were Carlos Caban , Charles Tomesch , Jr.. Arthur Schomber , Jr..
