Vital Adult Education Role at Conference Slated for Botwinick Jerome Botwinick , director of adult education , in the Patchogue public schools , will serve in a leadership capacity at the an- nual state Adult Education con- ference of the New York State Education department at the Ho- tel Onondaga , Syracuse, Monday and Tuesday. Mr. Botwinick will be discussion leader for a con- ference session which will de- scribe partnerships between adult education programs and local community organizations in plan- ning and conducting forums and discussion programs on public af- fairs . Three major addresses at the confe rence will be given by Gov- ernor Averell Harriman; Dr. Ed- win R. Van Kleeck , assistant commissioner for pupil person- nel services and adult education of the State Education depart- ment , and Phillip C. Wolz , presi- dent of the New York State School Boards association . Li ghted Porches To Signal Drive On Palsy Here Suffolk county residents who are aware of the need tor ex- panding the right on one of the world' s worst cripplers—cerebral palsy—will have their porch lights blazing the night of May 2. A lighted front porch will mean a welcome to volunteer can- vassers for the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Suffolk Coun- ty, whose drive for $50 , 000 will be confined to a two-hour period. Ford Hughes , honorary chair- Cerebral Palsy MONDAY r MAY 2nd V 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. man of the fund-raisins cam- paign , expressed the opinion yes- terday that Suffolk residents will \ give generously for a good cause. \ He said that funds col- lected within the county will go toward expanded educational , re- creational and rehabilitation serv- ices for the 400 men , women and children in Suffolk who are in need of help. In all but Communit y fund villages, solicitors will partici pate in neighborhood canvasses on what has been proclaimed as Cerebral Palsy day in Suffolk county by the Board of Super- visors. Anyone whose home is not visited on May 2 is asked to mail a contribution the next morning to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Suffolk coun- ty at the Patchogue hotel. \The theme of the. drive is 'Give J3o They May Live ' , \ Mr. Hughes declared. \We should all keep this in mind. There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but many victims can be helped to find a happy and useful place in society. We cannot let such an opportunity slip by. \ GIVE Citizens ' Parade fnr Orthopedic Clinic Set Here Next Thursday The Suffolk County Department of Health here has announced that an orthopedic consultation clinic will be held at the Municipal building in Patchogue next Thurs- day from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m. Dr. Julius C. Felicetti of Southampton , consultant orthopedist , will con- duct the clinic. The purpose of the Suffolk county orthopedic clinic is to pro- vide specialized diagnostic consul- tation and follow-up supervisory service to p hysicians and patients. Miss Ro- bin Viverito of Panamoku is among those in the cast. Last Thursday at 7 a. m. eighth grade pup ils of Ridge school boarded a bus for the annual trip to New York city. They were: Walter Allen , Walter Ashfield , Joseph Giaquinto , John Wicks , Donald Mott , Manfred Zepzmei- sel , Mary and Rosary Macedo , Mary Matosin , Jane Schneider , Janet Viverito , Helen Wollitz , Margaret Dearborn and Rosema- rie Cusick. John Anastasi , prin- cipal of Ridge school , and Sal- vatore Calebrese , Ridge post mas - ter , were in charge. Upon their arrival they breakfasted at Rock- efeller Plaza , then went to Ra- dio City, where they saw \The Glass Slipper \ and the Easter show. After lunch they went to the Penny Arcade. The y had sup- per at an Italian restaurant and at 7 p. m. were in Madison Square Garden at the circus. On their way home they stopped at Coram for a late snack at the new diner there . It was Friday morning by the time all were safely in their respective homes , but all had had a very happy day. The students felt it was well worth the work they had done selling seeds , cakes , books and many other things to raise the money that paid for the trip. They both visited Mr. and Mrs. James Meeks here and attended the meeting of Old Glory chapter , Order of the East- ern Star , in Patchogue Thursday- ni g ht , after which they motored to Richmond Hill to Mrs. Riley ' s other home , and joined their hus- bands there . Methodists to Meet For Fund Planning Officials and otner members and friends of the Methodist Church of Patchogue will hold an infor- mal meeting at 8 p. m. Sunday with the Rev . Robert F. Ramm , pastor of the Northport Metho- dist church , to discuss various fund-raising plans. The church of which Mr. Ramm is pastor is comparable in mem- bership and constituency to the local church. It completed a suc- cessful fund-raising campaign a little over a year ago. Mr. Ramm ' s committee made a careful sur- vey of various organizations in the fund-raising field , and his ad- vice has been requested by the official board of the Patchogue church , which faces the need of clearing up present obligations , providing for needed improve- ments , and establishing a fund for a new building.
