Countryman, 2 1 , whose wife Joyce lives in North Huron Road, Wolcott, r e cently received the Army Com mendation Medal while serving with the 145th Aviation Battalion near Blen Hoa, Vietnam. Spec. Countryman earned the award for meritorious serv ice as a p e r sonnel management s p e c ialist in th e battalion’s headquarters company. A 1968 graduate o f L e a venworth Central School, he en- terjd the arm y in May 1969 and received basic training at Fort Dix, N .J. Spec. 4 C h a rles G. Wood, 20, son of M rs. Waneta C. Wood of Alton, form e rly of Wolcott, re cently received the Bronze Star Medal while serving with the 10 1 s t Airborne Division (A ir mobile) in Vietnam. He was pre sented the Bronze Star Medal for distinguishing him self through meritorious serv ice in connec tion with m ilitary operations against hostile forces ln Vietnam. He received the award while a s signed as a riflem a n In Co. D, 1st Battalion of the Division’ s 327th Infantry. He entered the Army in Ju ly 1969, completed basic training at Fort Dix, N .J ., and was last stationed at Ft. Lew is, Wash. He is a 1908 gra duate of Sodus Central School. IN FIELD PROGRAM M iss M a rjorie Nichols of Wol cott, a sociology major at Keuka College, recently participated in the college’ s annual field period of work and independent study. She gained vocational experience working in a field related to her major. She is a member of the cla s s of 1972. The Keuka F ield Period, e stab lished in 1942, allows students to link classroom learning with “ real world” experience. Col lege credit is granted for work in the program . Combine: 2 cups catsup 2 cups water 2 teaspoons chill powder 2 teaspoons salt Heat to boiling point and pour (covered) in slow oven, 300 degrees tender. Baste often with sauce. KIDNEY BEANS AND WINE 2 # 2 cans red kidney beans, drained 1/2 chornd 1 sm a ll can tomato paste Cwitbout J T * 1/ 2 cup chopped cooked ham 1 cup rid wl* Salt and pepper to taste 3 sm a ll green onions, tops and bulbs, chopped Saute onions, pepper and ham in butter. BAKED GRITS 1 1/2 cups grits 7 cups water Cook as directed on grits box. Bake uncovered, in large buttered cssserolt lor [ | 350 degrees. Serves 12. This can be frozen and then defrosted before tatty. DRUNK BEANS 1 pound dry pinto beans l sliced tomato 1 large onion, chopped 2 chopped seeded Jilipnop Butter Beer Soak beans overnight; drain and add fresh nt*r to e onion and cook about 40 to 45 minutes or until tater. I saute the tomato, another chopped onion, the jtlopMM, i pepper to taste. Add to the beans and pour in eooaikbMtii^ Sim m er approximately 30 minutes.
