Power Was- • - Transmitted By Ropes I 0 a When power was first produced at Niagara Falls, it could be used only directly and on the spot. It The Niagara Falls Power Company sells electricity at the low- est- average price re- ceived by any gener- ating system on the FTdflh Ameftecm — Continent-. \was considered a great imprpvement when ropes and pulleys extended the range a few hundred feet. But when this had been done, the power pioneers were literally, as well as figuratively, at the end of theirrope. \ Then came the marvelous development of elec- trical engineering that led to long-distance trans- mission at high voltages. But even a generation ago a few miles was the limit for economical trans- mission.
