Fort Covington New York The cows had been brought in and the milking machine was in operation when suddenly it seemed as though the whole barn was en- veloped with flames. The stock wa^ hurrh diy rushed out aud most of the farm 'implements were taken to places of safety, but there was a scarcity of water owing to the fact that the force pump and well were located in a milk house that was attached to the front of the barn which was ail ablaze. Consequent'}* the water had to be trucked from Mr. A. H. EiUworth's, about a quarter of a mite distent. It was a most modern barn and contained about seventy-five tons of hay, considerable grain and a large si!o wh'ch had been filled. As soon as the alarm was given here men with chemicals were ! quickly on their way, but the ! blaze had gat such a start that their effoBts ivete directed to saving the large home and several other ^mailer buildings. In this they were successful, but the figbt was a strenuous one. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr. DeGowin in his great loss. News of the euddea de«tb from • heart failure of Mr. Allison Barlow at his borne in Lo< AngeJes, Calif- oroia, on the evening of Sept. 6, has lately leached us and it was a great shock tcT his many friends here. Only three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Barlow visited their friends in the east and we have ; most pleasant recollections of the : renewal of their friendship after ; many years of absence. I'hey \ have since travelled in the South , and only recently returned from Honolulu and were planning a ; more extended trip around the ! world. j Mr. Barlow spent his early life ! in Hogansburg, where by faith- : fulness and fair dealing he built up a good merchandising business After rmriving Mi^s Bertha Burns daughter af the late H:ram N. ; Burns of this town, he sold his holdings and removed to Los An- geles in its.e: r'y days. He invr-t- : t-d largely in real estate and building nnd engaged in the real j estate business ar.d insurance, i He survived the grea\ panic which ; swept many into bankruptcy and j b< came very prosperous and lived to see his city take front rank among the great cities of his country. Mr. Barlow was a man of vision, good judgement, undoubted in- tegrity and hard woi k and he won the reward always due to these sterling qualities. He was a de- voted huv-baod and father, a good citizen and neighbor, a genial and la-ting friend and an honorable member of the Presbyterian Church He died in the harness as he could have wished without a lingering sickness. He leaves to mourn his loss a brave and loving wife, three married daughters and seven grandchildren, besides many rela- tives in various, places. He was a man worthy of imita- tion by our rising generation. We hope that Franklin County may send out into the world many more model, well-balanced, honorable men like nur former friend and neighbor. Mr. AllisonBarlow—Com Hollce to Vters Votf for Sarruel J.
