THE New York Herald of Wednes- day of last week contained tbe following intelligence, which, we feel sure will be perused with pleasure by a large number of people in Franklin county: \There were a number of appointments made at the Custom House yesterday, the mosi important of these being that of Wm. F. Creed, of Franklin county, as auditor. When tbe reorganization scheme w«at into effect the division of audits was divid- ed into two parts, the old auditor, Mr, Treichel, becoming head of oce part, uow called the disbursing division. The other new division—that ofacconntantor-rfalts to Mr. Creed. Under tbe old system the same ma$ paid the bills and audited accounts, too. Mr. Creed is banker, a member of the Democratic Committee and chairman of hi* county committee.\ ft is authentically ed that Mr. Creed has aceapted the posi- tion and consequently tendered his resigna- tion as cashier ef the Farmers' Natio&al Bank, and will remove to New York in the near future. It would seem that Mr. Kilburn, acting upon in- formation conveyed by Mr, Creed, at once dispatched officers from Malone who ef- fected the arrest in a prompt but quiet manner. It is said that something over $900 was found on Giilan when he taken into custody.
