The .Syracuse people returned to Syracuse before coming dowD with the disease and reports as to their condition arpyery conflict ing. Samples of the pork were sent to Syracuse and Buffalo fpr examin- atiou and it was found to be badly infected with the trichina. All of the thirteen persons were sized with the illness, called trichiuebis. Mrs, Mel rose, in.spite of the b^St medical attention died on Monday. One of the party was -seized with paralysis as one of the early symptoms re sembling those of typhoid fever. Trichina is a small, slender worm, Jwljich in the larval state, is parasi tic, ofteain hnmense numbers, in the voluntary muscles of the hog. When insutiicieutly cooked meat containing the larvae, is swallowed by man, they are liberated and rapidly be come adult, pair, and the females product? in a short time large nutp- bers of young which find their way to the muscles, either directly o r in directly by means of the blood. They become in bedded in the muscles and the intestinal tract, a n d fatal re sults quite generally follow. In the case of the ^ e lrose family and g u ests the disease seems to have produced more serious results with the older than the younger persons.
