Kennedy Two Crewmen Die In Runway Crash WASHINGTON <APi — The two-man crew of an EB57 twin- jet aircraft ua s killed Tuesday when the \Air Force plane crashed just before landing at Whnehorse, Yukon Territory, the Pentagon reports. The identities of the victims were being withheld, pending notification of next of kin. A spokesman said the plane. used of reconnaissance and as a light bomber, was enroute from its Newburgh, N.Y. base to Alas- ka, as part of an air defense exercise. Twelve other planes partiopatinc in the exercise landed safely. Archie. Giliespip; a reporter §K»r the Yukon Daily News in White horse, witnessed the crash. Giilespie said the plane was in the jriide path short of the run- way\ 'when it looked as if i? stalled. It hit near the end and disintegrated.'' said they have been permitted to remain in the exercise cor- ridor btween tv\o rows of cells because there is no indication of I violence and no necessity for i force. He said their demands j could not be met and were im- ! practical s ince the jail is a short j term detention facility and not an extended confinement institu- tion. The jail is not governed by the rules for a prison, he added. The prisoners jammed the au- tomatic locking with books. The I eighteen holdouts milled about freely in the exercise corridor. Some return to their open cells only to sleep at night.
