H a r t led the sheriff and state troopers on a 12-mile hunt yes terday in search of a 10-inch iron bar he said he and Moody had used to slug the jailer. H o w ever, they w e re unable to find either the bar or the keys which police say H a r t and Moody took from Torrence to m ake their esccape. The jailer’s body was found in a second floor hallw a y near the open gate of a cell block w h e re Moody and H a r t had been con fined. The jailer’s head was crushed. Moody was aw a iting trial on I b u rglary charges and H a rt, on a grand larcoeny charge. Police said last night John had been tied by the hands, feet and neck to a post during the initia tion, conducted by five boys in the cellar of a hom e. A kerosene lan tern placed on Hanley Quits Hospital During This Weekend ALBANY, Nov. 18 OP) — An Albany hospital spokesman said today that Lt. Gov. Joe R. Hanley was “well on the road to recov ery” and was expected to leave the (hospital this weekend. Hanley, 72, was taken to the hospital Nov. 15, suffering acute glaucoma of his sightless right eye, a condition marked by hard ness of the eyeball due to exces sive internal pressure. Rising at 5 a.m., Goff w e n t out on the back porch to find a •skunk sitting there. He retreated indoors and while he was p r e p a r ing to leave for his w o rk at Trudeau sanatorium the little ani m al climbed up onto the window sill and scratched on the window. Goff w e n t outside but the skunk had disappeared and . a thorough search of the grounds did not discover him. Just about to retu r n indoors, Goff epotted- the anim a l pecking around 'th e corner of the porch.
