DECEMBER 19, 2008 LAKE PLACID NEWS lakeplacidnews.com * PAGE 11 John Levy cooking in Wilmington; food shelf still seeking donations H News from Wilmington Lora Bushy ello everybody, here's news from Wilmington. Bits & pieces On my last two trips to Syracuse made over the last two weekends, there were so many beautiful Christmas lights, and some houses had their trees on display in front windows. Little twinkling reminders of the Star in the East? I like to think so. Let's not let the Christmas spirit die after we finish opening pres- ents, okay? The 9th annual Christmas Day dinner will be held at the Au Sable Forks Fire Station on Thursday, Dec. 25 starting at noon and ending at 4 p.m. This is open to the community and there is no charge. Come enjoy food and fellowship. All are welcome! (This from the Jay E-Newsletter) Church Happenings Whiteface Community UMC Christmas Eve serv- ices will be at 7 and 11 p.m. At the meeting of the Wilmington Seniors back on Nov. 11, the Riverside Thrift Shop was being discussed and Eva Lawrence said, \You can go there and find anything you want:\ Now if you can't believe Eva, who can you believe? Don't forget that the hours of operation for the Thrift Shop are between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Food Shelf is always open to donations of food and money. According to Don Morrison, \We actually buy a lot of our food from the Northeastern New York Food Bank in Latham.\ He goes on, adding, \Laundry detergent, toilet paper and other non- food items are always wel- comed because it gives fami- lies more money for their food.\ Wilmington Historical Society The society received the signed deed of gifts for the Myrtle M. Haselton Gowan collection from Linda Carver, Myrtle's daughter. Thanks ought to go to Linda and the other Gowan 'children' (and Myrtle) for the donation of what is now an official collec- tion of the WHS, and also to Karen Peters and Merri Peck for cataloguing the listing. Does anyone remember the great bam sales that Myrtle used to have? Talk about a lot to look at! Around town Dorothy Dadds is ready to greet all shoppers at the Adirondack Sport Shop on Route 86 in Wilmington. Just because you don't fish doesn't mean that you won't find any nice gifties there because there are plenty of non-sporting items that anyone would like, either as gifts or for personal use. There are pewter key chains, animal pins, tee shirts, carvings; hey, I could go on and on, but why don't you stop in and see with your own eyes? John Levy has come to Wilmington! Stop in at John's Grill (at the Evening Hatch) and say hello to this gentle- man. Open since Sept. 29, Levy has been operating from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. (breakfast & lunch) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but stays on until 6 p.m. on Mondays. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, hours are from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. LORA BusnY/LAKr PLACID NI WS Above, Aaron Kellett came all the way from Jay to the Wilmington Post Office to have our post- mistress, Merri Peck, help him send his holiday presents to some lucky recipients. with the Apres Ski menu start- ing at 3 p~m. For an added spe- cialty on his menu, Levy is making pizzas from 3 to 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Mondays. Assisting with the operation of the grill are Darin Glass in the kitchen and Jennifer Brown at your table. Levy's philosophy of business help- ing business is refreshing. He touts local coffee and local bakery products in his adver- tising and wonders why busi- nesses can't help each other. Like the old sentiment goes, we're all in this together. Wanting to open a restaurant on the premises are Al & Alicia Armstrong at the Mountain Brook Lodge next to the Wilmington post office. By the time this issue of the Lake Placid News goes to print, the local Zoning Board of Appeals will have acted on these two conditional use applications, barring any storms, that is, but I guess that's understood around here. Wilmington seniors Carolyn Kane and Leah Jaquish passed out cans of soup donated to the group by Joanne Duncan and Steve Panik at the Wilmington Senior Luncheon last Thursday, Dec. 11. When I last spoke to Carolyn, she told me of more December birth- days: Betty Huber will be cel- ebrating this coming Sunday, Dec. 21, and Carolyn herself will be another year wiser only (not older!) next Tuesday, Dec. 23. And what do you know? The Senior Luncheon menu will be chick- en & biscuits with mashed potatoes and green beans. Talk about your comfort food. And for dessert, there will be fruit with appeal - bananas. Wile at the meeting, Dave \Brookie\ Brookman told me that he had driven some of our youth up to the latest \Stars On Ice\ show at the Arena in Lake Placid. As he stated, \A good time was had by all.\ Brookie, we hope this issue of the LPN finds you feeling bet- ter. Close to Wilmington Jay: The Town of Jay/Black Brook Youth Commission Music Theater Club will be presenting a Christmas Concert, and not just any con- cert, but the first, the first of many, the beginning of the yearly concert, you get the picture? Directed by Susan Richards, this primary presen- tation will be performed on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Town of Jay Community Center. While there is no admission charge, a donation of a non- perishable food item for the food shelf would be greatly appreciated. And, in closing The initial town justice training sessions are over for me. I am, as they say, certi- fied. Please keep praying for me that I am also qualified. Thank you. So long for now, thank you for reading, and \May God Bless.\ CROUP HEALTH INSURANCE Northeast Benefits Planning Employee and Executive Benefits Integrated solutions at competive prices.
