My husband is also a member of th^ ambulance squad, of which I, too, am an active member, and we both give up many hours rif pur time as do many, other good and dedicated people do to better serve this area. Voorheesville is one of the last communities in our county to have this \service awards\ program. Lighten up, lady. Carol Greene VoorheesviDe Department or good oF boys? To the Editor: I have had some interesting responses to my letter that ap- peared in last week's paper. To those who asked: Ylis, Vitgihiav there is a bar in the Voorheesville fire house. (You can draw your own co'n- clusions.) Audi n6j giving \service awards\ to the firemen does not mean that the village is having a little cerembn^ ahd present- ing them with^ertnTcates of ap- preciation. '^ Out- firemen are lobbying for cash incentives, not apprecia- tion. Ahd if enough people don't get to tim phlls^ oir ApriI16 to de- feat their proposal, they will be receiving benefits to the tune of $40G$OO In taxpayers^ mpney over the next ten years and then $25,000iTeVery- yesu? thereafter (Please note, both of these fig- ures are approximate.) I find it curious that the issue of a manpower shortage is be- ing raised at all, considering the current members are al- lowed to vote on the acceptability of applicants and have the au- thority to veto those who don't be- long to the gPod ol' boy network (such as women). VFD was one of the most ardent holdouts in opposition to female firefight- ers. They^only recently had to bite the bullet and let one in.
