10 \moral powers and sentiments of the :of country where there is no love of 'give interest and dignity to labor at - home. sa es > eae n omen onn n Agricsl tural. _ MAKE FAEK LABOR FASHIONABLE. At the: base of the prosperity of any people lies this great principle ; make farm labor fashionable at home. Ed- ucate, instruct, encourage, and offer all the incentives you can offer, to Enlist the heart and the intel- lect of the family in the support of a domestic system that will make labor attractive to the homestead, By the means of the powerfal influences of early home education, endeavor to in- vest practical labor with an interest that will cheer the heart of each mem- ber of the family, and thereby you will give 'to your household the grace, peace, refinement and attraction which a home is designed to possess. The truth is, we must walk more, think more, work more, and act more, in reference to queséions in relation to home. ~ The training and improvement of the physical, intellectual, social and youth of our country, require some- thing more than the school-house, ac- ademy, college, and university. The young mind should 'receive judicious training in the field, in the garden, in the barn, in the workshop, in the par lor, in the kitchen-in a word, around the hearth-stone at home. Whatever intellectual attainments your son may have acquired, he is unfit to go forth into society if he has not had thrown around him the genial infin- ences of the parents, sisters, brothers, and the mansaving infuences of the family circle, There can be no love home. Patriotism, true and genuine, the only kfad worthy of the name, de- rives its mighty strength from foun- tains that gush out around the hearth- stone ; and those who forget to cher- ish the household interests, will soon learn to look with indifference upon the interests of their common country. We must cultivate the roots-not the tops: We must make family gov- ernment, the school, the farm, the church, the shop, the agricultural fairs, the labortories of our future great» ness. We must educate our sons to be farmers, artisans, architects, gagin- gers, geologists, botanists, chemists in a word, practical men. Their eyes must be turned from Washington to their states, counties, townships, dis- tricts, homes. This is truepatriotism, and the only patriotism that will per- petually preserve the nation. -Gov. Wright. sol n cee s. Hts ror tus Sgasox.-I you have no fodder racks, have them made im- mediately. © Feed is too valuable to be trampled under foot and wasted. A saw, axe and auger, are all the tools required in making these highly use- fut articles. - Make all the manure you can. Re- collect that according to the quantit and quality of this farmer's friend, will your erops be large or small.- Leaves from the woods, muck, und every kind of refuse, mixed with sta- ble manure, make the best kind of fere tilizers. . Let none go to waste. Plow whenever and wherever the ground is dry enough, especially clay soils. (Much time will be saved there- by in the Spring, and you can get your seed in earlier. The spring rains often leave the ground so wet that it is unfit to be plowed in proper time. Don't let your fences'go to decay ; but provide, during the winter suffi- cient new rails to make good the des- truction, from whatever cause, of the old ones. IF cattle once learn the baa)- it of jumping over a low or dilapidat- ed fence, they will not stop at even a good one. \ To Maks ar Osstinare Hoase Pru. -A cerrespondent of tho Cotton Plan- ter says : 'Let me tell you of an infallible method of making a horse pull up a hill or anywhere else that his muscles are able to carry him. Take a small rope (a plow line for example,) double it, make a loop of the double end, and draw it sougly around the under jaw of the animal, just béhind his front teeth, with the loop underneath. Throw the loose end over your shoul- der, and walk, in the way he should go, holding fast, and pull steadily and firmly, Don't be troubled about him, for he will follow without fail, after he has- digcovered how you have got him. This will also compel an animal to stand quiet to receive the bridle or collar. 2+ t onn <n n Dry Woop ror Fogsu.-It is estima- ted that an \average cord of green | wood contsins more than two hogs- heads of water. Now to obtain any heat, this water mast first be raised to the boiling point, and expelled by evaporation. Necessarily, tho heat required to do this is lost for all use- ful purposes ; and the waste in the consumption of that cord ia sufficient to boil thirteen and a half hogsheads of water. The housekeeper may learn from this the advantage of using well- seasoned fuel. If a man carries a hun- dred cords of Freen wood to market in a year, he will see that he carries over two hundred hogsheads of water, | tions not only suffer from scrofulous com- ' syetemmn from MEDICAL. Serornta, or King's Evil, is a constitutibnal discase, a corruption of the bloud, by which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak, and prot. Being in the circulation, it pervades the whole body, and my burst out in discase eu£ny part of it. No organ is free from its attacks; nor is there one which it may not destroy. | 'The scrofulous taint is variously eaused. by morenrial disease, low living, dis- qrdered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vites, and, above all, by the vencreal infection,. What ever be its orfgin, it is hereditary in the can- stitution, desgending \ from parents to children unto the thug and fourth generation ;\ indeed, it scoms to e the rod of Hig who says, \ I will visit the iniquitics of the fathers upon their cluldren.\ Its effects commence by deposition from the blond of cortlupt or ulccrous matter, fvhich, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, 18s tenned tubercles ; in the glands, swellings; and on the surface, areptions or sores. - This foul cor- ruption, whith genders in the blood, doprqsses the energies of life, so that scrofulgus constitu- _| plaints, but they have far less power to with- stand the attacks of other diseases; conse- quently, vast numbers perish lg disorders which, alth »agh not scrofulgus in their nature, are still mafl.red fatal by this taint in the system. Most of the consumption which de- cimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous containination ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the orgaus, arise from or are aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous ; their personq are invaded by this: lurking in- fection, and their health is undermined by it. To cleanse if from, the system we must renovate the blood by an alterative medicine, and in- vigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply in AYERS (pound Extract of Sarsaparilla, the must efftctual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where provalling and fatal malady. It is com- bined from the most active remedials that have been discovered tor the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the its destructive consequences. Hence it shuld be employed for the cure of not only sctofula, but also those other affec- tions which arise from it, such as Envrerivs® and SB«ix Diseases, Bt. Firs, Rosz, or Enveirecas, Pustuuses, Brovteues, Huaixs and Bois, Tuxors, Terren and Sart Burry, Scarn Hean, Rixowony, BRasuxariay, Sypniurric and Dis- mases, Drowsy, Dysrtrsia, Deniuirx, and, indeed, arr Coupramnts arising rros Viria- Tep or Iurtne Boon. The pogmlnr belief in ** impurity of the blood\ is founded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa- rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossiblo in contaminated constitutions. Ayer's Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIHG, are so compased that disonse within the range of their action «an rarely withstand or evado thom Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse, and invigorate every portion of the human organ- isin, corfecting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of these properties, the invalid who is bowed down with gain or physical debility is astonished to find his ealth or enprgy restored by a remedy at once so simple and invitmg. Not only, do they cure the every-day complaints of every bedy, but aiso many formidable and dangerous diseases. 'lhe agent below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac, contmining certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the following complaints . (Costicre- ness, Hearthurn, Headache arising from disordered St&mach, Ngusea, Indigestion, Pain in and Morlid Inaction of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appe- tite, Jaund}ee, and other kindred complaints, ariuing from a low state of the body or obstruction of its functiqgns. wo \os.
