The case of Charles Braveman against Lieuy Leboyets -tried before a jury resulted in a judg-ment for the defendant Leboyetz of-S52. Ar- thu r Hendricks, a well known young attorney, will b e in the field this fall for the Democratic nomination for district attorney. Rumors to that ef- fect 'Game-from a reliable source and there seems to be little doubt but tha t Mr. Hendricks will be the choice of his party. He is considered a most logical candidate of his party at the present time. It is autieipated that Attorney Hendricks •would also command a largo labor vote in this county through the friendship he has gained by representing the paper makers union in their past troubles and by many successful moves he has made for them. Mr. Hendricks has been prominent in the affiairs of his party in this sec- tion since he became a voter and during the last campaign aeter as chairman of the city committee. He recently took over the law office, books and fixtures of Attorney G. A. Lawyer in the Flower building. TWO .HORSES »ROWNBO WHEN 3CE GIVES WAS Carthage, Feb . IS.—Two horses, valued at $J.pO, owned by Wayne Vrooman of Deer River, were drown- ed, at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when they brofce through the ice in Black river a short distance above this village. Desperate efforts were made by scores of men working on the Ice nearby to save th e animals, but after repeated attempts one of the horses went under the ice. The other was alive when taken from the water but soon .died. The owner of the animals was driving at th e time of the acci- dent. He stated that the heavy weight of the team weakened the ice, which is about ten inchest hick. Ice cutting operations were resum- ed Wednesday after nearly three weefes layoff, occasioned by a wash- out of ice In the river. It is expected tha t th work will be completed with- in another week. Pratt, a well known veteran sailor of the Croat Lakes, passed away sud- denly at the home of his brother-in- law, Fred Voodre, here Wednesday evening. He was 51 years of age. While he spent his summers on the lakes, Capt. Pratt had made a custom of spending his winters with his sis- ter here. She died in November last : year. The news of Capt. Pratt's death carrie as a shock to friends here, for he seemed to= be in better health yes- terday than for some time. His broth- er, Harrison Pratt of Watertown.was bero to visit hiru yesterday, and at that time no concern was expressed over his condition. About _S last even- ing he suddenly expired. He was born in Stone Mills In November, 1864. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 1:30 from the' house and at 2 from the Methodist Episco- pal church, Rev. Rev. A. T. Cort offi- ciating.
