UTXCA, Sept. 36: 1871. CHEESE.—The transactions to-day, were vory light, as bub little cheese was offered. Only five factories were represented, viz.; L. L. Wright, C. W. & G. A. Smith, Oris- kany, North Litchfield, and Cassville. Tho total offering amounted to only 850 boxes, of which 560 were sold. The prices realized were 13 l-4alS 1-Sal4c.—tho lat- ter figures being paid for the L. L. Wright. The buyers wore present in force. • There was no lack of buyers, and the lightness of the transactions was not due to the lack of demand. The trouble was that most of the factories sold during-the week at prices less than they would have got if they ha 1 waited until the regular market clay and sold on tho market,, as they do at Little Palls, where the factory- men understand the importance and ad- vantages of keeping up a market. The receipts in New York for the woek ending Saturday, wore 71,540 boxes, and the exports were 64,758 boxes. The cable lias risen to 56c; gold close at 115, and the highest quotation for cheese was 13 1-Se. For the corresponding week last year, the receipt were 63,389 boxes, and the shipments 34,453 boxes. The cable was 61s.; gsld closed at 113, and the highest quotation for clieeA was fourteen and a half cents. The policy of keeping the stock going forward and getting into consumption, has worked well, and will continue to work well. Two or three weeks of activity will make the future of the market satisfactory and certain. The fact that there is a de- mand in the home market is a good feature showing that our home dealers apprehend a future rise and aro anxious to lay in stock before the advance. Tho recent severe frost has cut tho grass and fodder- corn and will considerablyreduce the fu- ture make of cheese. BUTTER.—There is no material change to note in the butter market. Eeally flue is always scarce and is -worth 36a38c. Buyers will not pay these figures, however, for much that is offered. Their range is still about 30a36c. XSrltSsli Vessel Fired Upon. NEW YOKE, Sept. 22:—The Nassau Herald of the 16th inst., lias a dispatch from Port-au-Prince giving tho following account of an outrage on a British vessel , in Haytien waters, by the Spaniards: The Commander of the Spanish man-of war Churraca fired upon the British sloop E. Beckwith, which had on board aB a passenger Captain Gomez, who was on his way to Massau to take charge of the Hay- tien corvette Mont Organise. A number of armed men with carbines, boarded tho Beckwith and attempted to fire on tho crew, but were prevented. This proceed- ing caused the lieckwith to return to port. Commander Gomez has requos'ted the government to send a man-of-war to obtain satislaction for the insult offered liirn. The English flag, however, has been in- sulted as well as ours, and it remains to he ssen whether such a man as the British consul at St. John will put up quietly with this affront or hot. The only apology that was offered was this : The Spanish vessel first raised the English, flag and fired a salute of 21 guns, and ffyen the Haytien flag with a salute of 17 guns. permanent.
