School boards seldom I visit other schools except their own, or i send their teachers to study the work^ ings of other systems. BBICK AKD MOCTAn. This is not widespread, but it \u con- tagions. Tlie tendency to estimate a school by a brick-and-mortar standard is growing. It is applied alike to the\ university and the school of the vil- lage. Brick-and-mortar debts, in too many cases, have deprived children from good instruction. A child in a palace with a brainless teacher is poor in- deed. The following are big children of obstacles previously named: 1. That mechanical drill is educa- tion. Information swallowing in learn- ing. 2. That the masses know what they want— vox populi, &o. 8. That the school is to cn^e all weaknesses, supply defects and insure a money-making life. 4. Great laek of true educational ideas among the people. 5. Social lines. 6. Undue sensitivonosa. 7. That a mental quart cup can hold a gallon. These obstacles are ef the people. Educators are not the psople. Only a feeble minority have enlisted for the war,the rank and file are home guards ; so, ftccorbihg to the Napoleonic max- im. Providence is hardly on their side in battling against these obstacles to better education. / BRUCrS.I! aro specially mriteA to m exaiiainatioB of <mr Mrge and well selected stock of THE WONDER OF HEALING!
