The wear and tear of life tells upon.us all more or less. What are but machines? Thevltal principle is the mof tWe power that keeps the human engine in motion; but as beams, plstonsv connection pipes, condensers and- boil- ers, wear out,, so do organs, muscles tissues and all the compound.partsof that marvelous piece of work called Man. The mechanism of the body requires to be re- paired'and strengthened just as much as the mechanism employed to grind corn or spin cotton, iii weave cloth. Steam cannot drive a broken shaft or impel a drum or a wl eel that is out of gear; neither can the vital force act through a paralyzed or an inert, organ. ' Are you wearing out? Do you feel that any one of jour organs-r-your stomach, liver, bowels, nervous sys- tem, of any other essential part of your organization, falters in its work? If so, repair the damage with the most powerful, yet harmless of ihvigoraats, Hbstetter'a Bitters. Remember that debility is the \Beginning of the End\— tbat'the climax of all weakness is a univer- sal paralysis of the system, and that such paralysis is the imedlate precursor of Death. Don't wait for disease to commit Us ravages before you commence the strengthening process. Keep the whole body in a vigorous condition by preventing as far as possible, the inroads of decay. Repair the waste of nature with nature's best tonic, Hostett«r's Bitters, , (28aS2 ^_ \Pain is supposed to be the lot of us poor mortals as inevitable as death, and liable at any time to come .upon us. Therefore it ls.iinportant that remedial agents should be at hand to. be used in any emergency, when we are made liable to feel tne excrutlating agonies o, pain, or the depressing influence of disease. Such a remedial agent exists In the Pain Killer, the fame of which has extended over all the earth. Amid the eternal ices of the Polar region or beneath the burn- ing sun of the tropics, its virtues are known and appre- ciated. The effect of the Pain Killer upon the Patient when taken Internallyin cases of colds coughs, bowel coinplaints, cholera, djsentery,.and all other affections of the system, has been truly wonderful, and has won for it a name among medical preparations that can never be forgotten. There were several things connected with the jollification on Wednesday night that were over- looked in our hurried account of Thursday morning; Before going to Judge Brown's, tne- crowd stepped into'Aldei-man\-.Illori ! 1 lman'g, and stowed away a number of dozens of Bennett's Bottled Soda. After visiting the Mayor eleet, they returned to Sprague Livingston's, who is as true a Republican as ever drew a breath, and spent another jolly half hour. -, :.«» : : •••' Our Charter Election. One of the chief things that constrained the City Republicans to, work for a, victory on Wednesday last, was thu anxiety of our Repub- lican friends in all parts of the ecuunty, some of whom fearcd.tliat wo should full into the hands of the Philistines. Wo hope nil mre now satisfied that the ^Republicans of the city are entitled to the respect of their brethren of itlie rural dis- tricts. We have sent yon, gentlemen of the in- terior towns, throe additional Republican Super visors. How is that brother Kcnrington ? the Democrats talkied of draping their Hall in mourning in ease thie Senate should convict the President, they Httlp thought they should have a funeral nearer home so soon. It's always bad to be talking about going into mourning. Democratic readers must \grin aud bear\ our rejoicings if they can. Considering the \baked meats\ prepared, and the \sea stores\ laid in for the purpose of making the Re- publicans \hunt their holes,\ they cannotblame U9 if wo mako a noise, If we Iliad failed after making such promises we shoulfl have kept hid for a week, at least. young gentleman from Connecticut, who happened to be in town on charter election day, attended the Republican jollification sit Lyceum Hall in the evening. After looking on awhikj he remarked that it was no wonder that St. Lawrence county rolled up Immense Repub? lican majorities. He allowed that it was the \biggest political thing\ he over 1 saw. v - n the intoxication of bliss, occasioned by the joy of winning the first charter election in the city of Ogdensburg, we overlooked some of the speakera who entertainedl the audience at Lyceum Hall. A. Jf. Sheppey, who was christened \Alderman\ by Capt, Peter Robertson, gave us an old fashioned-Connecticut speech. There may be others who were overlooked in the report. If so they will understand that it was not intentional, l-. JE. G. Gilson, of St. Albans, has been ap\ pointed Route Agent by the Poat Office Depart- ment on the route from this city to St. Albans.— The appointment of a third agejit on this route has been rendered necessary biy the large in- crease of business upon it, and the Department now seriously contemplate instituting the new Postal-car service upon it, as soon as the neces- sary and satisfactory arrangements.can be made with the railroad companies. :?• / Fir e in Edwardslburgh. NEW YOUR, 16.^-TheTimesspecial says: The canvass among doubtful Senators continues, any- one of them, who is certain to vote for conviction on four articles, *ent quietly oVer t'o Annapolis for the day to avoid the importunities of people who think he is unsound. The developments of to-day, in the judgment of ypur correspondent, slightly reduce the.chances of cQnyiction, but do, not render acquittal certain. The result of all interviews of the Missouri delegation with Senator Henderson is that aftei; much equivocation and a great many half-way promises about resignation and voting for con- viction, he will vote for acquittal on all the charges. This mav be depended upon. Mr. Van Winkle, of West -Virginia, who has also been depended upon to vote for the 11th article, has been writing an opinion, and has written himself out of any such intention, even if he ever entertained it, which I doubt. Mr. Willeyj of the same State, is regarded as certain for con- viction on four articles. Mr. Fowler of Tennessee is being labored with ;by his delegation, and gives them some slight words of comfort without any positive promises while he tells others that he can't vote for these articles without committing perjury. This gives the President only 18 votes, 12 Democrats and 6 Republicans. He must have 19, the additional man must come from, the Republicans. That ;man must be one of four. If Mr. Willey votes -for the second' article the President will be con- victed by a vote of 36 to 18, or just two-thirds in a full Senate. The eleventh article may carry by the same vote but it is not so certain. Threfe Senators are now sick, but will probably be able to be in their seats by Saturday. Messrs. Coijkling and Howard certainly will from present indications. At noon to-day Senator Grimes' condition was unchanged. He is suffering from a paralysis of the leg and arm, and by the advice of his physicians has remained in bed. He will not be allowed to receive any visitors or attend to his correspondence for a few days. I t was thought if his condition grows no worse, he will be able to be in his seat on Saturday. J. B. S. also gives the following canvass of votes on impeachment: Eighteen votes will suffice to overcome the two-thirds and secure acquittal if Mr. Wade does not vote. As Mr. Wade, however, has declared his intention to vote, nineteen vote3 must be had if the Presi- dent is to be saved. The nineteen Senators who are expected to vote against all the articles, are as follows: . Democrats Bayard, Buckalew, Davis, Dixon, Doolittle, Hendricke, Johnson, McCreery, Nor- ton, Patterson of Tennessee, Saulsbury and Tick- ers ; Republicans Fessenden Fowler, Grimes, Henderson, Trumbull, \Van Winkle and Willey. The Republican are unanimous for no further postponement. Two-thirds of the Senators are worn out and whether impeachmont is closed or not, both houses will adjourn over until after the Chicago Convention. J. B. S. details in the World an interview with the President, showing the latter to be perfect- ly calm and confident of acquital and and ex- pressing the firmest faith in. Fessenden, Trum- bull and Grimes. NEW ORLEANS, 15.—The majority for the Con- stitution is officially announced as 17,413.
