Allow mo to call your attention to a new and IMPROVED SHINGLE MACHINE. Recently invented by Mr. TUPPER of Rux- bury, Mass., and patented in September, 185(i, of which I am the authorized Agent for CLIN- TON, FRANKLIN, ST. LAWRENCE & JEF- FERSON COUNTIES. This machine Planes and Saws the Shingle at one operation, and takes no more time or labor than the ordinary machines for Sawing Shingles. The Shingle is planed by an upright Rotary Planer, revolving immediately in front of the Saw, so that it is planed on one side while it is being sawed from the bolt. It is a great improvement on the ordinary Sawed Shingle, either for roofs or sides of build- ings, as the smooth side of the Shingle will not retain the water, and presents a good plain sur- face to receive Paint, and by the best judges is considered fully equal, if not superior, to Shaved Shingles, doing away with the great objection to Sawed Shingles, of gathering the moisture, and rotting away in a few years. Below I give the opinions of some of the heav- iest Shingle and Lumber Dealers in the city of of Albany. ALBASV, June 5, 1857. A. B. JENNER, Esq.: Sir, we consider tho difference in value between Sawed Shingles ond Planed and Sawed Shingles, about $1,00 per in in this market. WM. HEADLAM & SON, Lumber Dealers, cornerjjf Lumber and Water- streets, Albany, N- Y. ALBANY, June 5, 1857. A. B. JENNER: Sir, we consider the difference in value be- tween Sawed Shingles and Sawed and Planed Shingle, would be about 25 per cent, in this market. BULLOCK & MANY. Wholesale and retail Lumber dealers, No. 48, Water-street, Albany, N. Y. ALBANY, June 5, 1857. MR. JENNER: Dear Sir, The specimen of shingle presented, planed on one side, is doubtless an improve- ment on the simply sawed shingle. Shingles of this description, we should think mightbe preferred, and command a price for same quality, of perhaps 50 ots. per m. in this market. C. P. WILLIAMS & CO. Lumber Dealers, Albany, N. Y. ALBANY, June 5, 1857. A. B. JENNER, Esq: Dear Sir, We concur with the above opinions as to the compartive value of the Planed Shin- gles over the ordinary sawed.
