W h ile Mr. Chauncy Sprague was oystering on Long Creek, Thursday, lie was shot by Mr. Stephen Carman, who wns hunting. . Sprague w as dressed iu a rubber suit, aud was not seriourly injured. Tlie friends cf Mr. Carman claim that the shooting was accident al, hut it i s unfortunate that the men have taken different sides on tho exciting oyster question o f the locality. T h e Lorillard Steam-ship Company are building a new boat a t Gowamis which is to h e the pioneer on a new route, from Bridge port, Conn., to Port .lefferi-on, Long Island. .The name of tb e host will be the Jirook- Jiaven. and in a d d ition to the passenger acorn- • modations will be fitted u > for freight. Trasson will command the bout* On Thursday last tlie Trustees of the H u n ter’s Point School served on Mr. Seiberg, the Principal, a notification that.the public school .- .premises,' building a n d property should he no ’ longer used or occupied during school hours fo r the purpose of religious exercises, practi ces, instructions, reading o f the scriptures, or recitations of religious prayere. Tbe notifica - tion w a s signed by Joseph Fields, Secretary e f the Hoard o f Trustees. In the absence of the'P rincipal, a copy was tlso read to the teaChera in the school. The Trustees claim that th'ey have authority over the building, and although they have not the power to de cide on the regulations o f the school, which . is vested in the Commissioners, they have tlie right to close tlie school building, and shall certainly do so, unless the reading o f the Bi ble is discontinued. A fter the serving of tlie notice on Thursday, Mr. Feisel attended the school during th e m o rning exercises, anti was present at the reading of the Scriptures by the Principal, notwithstanding Hie notification, and ou Friday a u o lher Trustee attended with him for the purpose o f witnessing tbe disre gard o f orders.
