A young man, who had inherited a nmnH, but excellent farm, HHM \There is not much I can do this dull weather. I cannot make hay, w> it is of no use to mow ; my corn 1MB been hoed once, and I believe I shall not hoe it again.\ This num. ie an anti-book farmer; he takt'fl no agricultural paper, having stop- ped onc*}ie once took, l>ecausc \ it was all about gunno, and «uch kind of stuff.\ His idcuH of farming consist in raising corn, potatoes, and hay, nil of which, witU the exception of a small quantity of tlie latter, is used at home, When he is not plowing, or planting, hoeing or mowing, he can ihid nothing to do, but go to the store, blacksmith's shop, or post-office. Strange, indeed, that any owner of a farm should let all the cloudy, foggy days be lost, or nearly so, for want of employ- ment. They are or can be made, the most profitable of any. Draw a few loads of muck or loam into your barn, or hog-yard; fork over that pile of manure, and cover it with earth; dig out those rocks, so that your plow-beams may not be broken next spring; build the unfinished wall; drain such pieces of land as need it; mow bush- es, if you are so unfortunate as to have any; and above all, do not neglect to study such agricultural works, as will ele- vate you in your calling. Never let the day pass in which you have nothing to do, but Ut the time which can be Aparc4 from gnrwing crops, )m spent in permanent im- provements, and in a few years it will be found that it was not spent in vain.
