The new'produce has just been in troduced to the public in a demon stration sale at a chain store in Geneva and will also be dispensed to fru it growers attending the meetings of the State Horticultural Society in Rochester and Kingston next month. T h e new beverage is a pure fruit juice prepared from a m ixture of black and purple raspberries blended with apple juice which has been extracted from sound, hand- picked. and washed Baldwin and | Cortland apples. The juice is de- . scribed a s a pleasant appetizer or a delightful cocktail. It has a deep purple color and a full rich rasp berry flavor which biends with the j flavor of the apple juice to make something entirely new in the way raspberry juice is well received by of a fru it beverage. It is expected that if the apple consumers, canning companies in the State will want to pack the product on a commercial scale, with resulting benefit to fruit grow ers in opening up a new outlet for their fruit. T h e juice to be of fered in the dem nstration sale and at the Station exhibits was processed and canned in the S t a tion fruit juice laboratory. Last year the Station introduced a new cherry beverage which was called \cherry cocktail” and which w a s prepared by blending the juices of Montmorency and English Morello cherries. This new cherry beverage was well received by con sumers in several sections of the State, where'it was offered for sale. Meal for Home Use Is Urged Every farm could, and should produce enough meat for the farm fam ily and hired help or tenants, says the New York State College of Agriculture. W hy should not the farm e r and his fam ily have the satisfaction of an abundance of fresh roasts and steaks, home cured ham . bacon and sausage? the college asks. The food specialists say that meat has long been recognized as a^dellcious and healthful food, but that cost has limited Its use. For tunately, they add, farm families can have a great variety of meats at all seaspps with little cash ex- i pense. T h e y ' can raise their own meat anim als, and slaughter, cut, cure and can them at home. In fact, it is said, a saving of $150 or more can be m ade in the fam ily food budget if the farm produces most of the fam ily meat supply. The body needs some protein every day. and meat is lUtrd a1! one of the important protein foods Other foods supply small amounts of protein to make up the balance needed, but a serving of meat daily one other protein-rich food, a pint of milk, and some cereal pro ducts will insure the desirable amount for the normal person, the food experts say.
