Hold Two Italians for Murder Sheriff Scherp and His Men Take the Barilla Brothers After Exciting Fight. Sheriff Scherp, Deputy W agner and Sergeant Burke and Officer Greggo, of the watershed police, had a lively time at Tuckahoe at seven o’clock Friday night where they went to ar rest two Italian brothers, who from information received are said to havc been implicated in the murder of An tonia Ditto who lived at Tuckahoe and who was found, murdered on Sun day, Feb. 26, in Dr. Choate’s woods at Pleasantville. The Deputy Sheriff and Watershed police have been working on the case and from information received it was believed that two Italian brothers, John and Joseph Bollori, who keep a saloon at Tuckahoe, and who were friends of the murdered man, were concerned in thc murder. Friday evening Sheriff Scherp and the officers went in the saloon. f,I want to see yon, said Sergeant Burke to John Bollori, who was behind the bar. Thc Italian took off his apron stepped from behind the bar and bolt ed out of thc door. Officer Greggo and Deputy Wagner followed. The man was told to stop. He did not and Greggo fired a shot 011 the ground. Thc chase continued two blocks when Bollori dashed into a tenement. Greggo was only a few feet behind. He followed and W agner ran around to the rear of the building. Greggo reached the foot of a rear pair of stairs as Bollori was near tbe top. The Italian stopped, turned suddenly around and attempted to draw his re volver when Greggo fired, hitting him in the hip. The man was taken into a room where there was a sheet iron stove with isinglass door. The other Italian was brought over and stood by his brother in the crowded room. They shifted around the stove several times and the man who was shot passed a thirty-two calibre revolver to his brother which was detected. When the crowd left Sheriff Scherp searched the room. He pulled a dirk with a six inch blade and a fur handle out of the isinglass door which John Bollori is believed to have tried to put in the stove. Both brothers were arraigned be fore a magistrate. It was found nec essary to send Joe Bollori to tho Law rence Hospital at Bronxville, al though his wound is not necessarily serious. The other brother is locked up in the county jail. Here are Lenten Regulations Rules That Must B e Followed by Those Who Observe Catholic Church’s Precepts. The following are the regulations ior I.ent in the Roman Catholic Churches; AU the week days oi Lent, from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, are fast days of precept, on one meal, wiht the allowance of a moderate col lation in the evening. The Clmrch excuses from the obli gations of fasting tbut not of abstin ence from flesh meat, except in spec ial cases o f sickness) thc infirm, those who are attaining their growth, those whose duties are of an exhausting or laborious character, women in preg nancy or nursing infants and those who arc enfeebled by old age. The following dispensations are granted by thc authority o f the Holy See; First—The use of flesh meat is per mitted at every meal on the Sundays of Lent and at the principal meal on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sat urday, with the exception of Ember Saturday and Holy Saturday. Second — Eggs and white meats tlacticinia) may be used every day in Lent at the principal meal, and also at the moderate collation in the even ing. Third—A small piece of bread, with a cup of coffee, tea or thin chocolate may be taken in the morning. Fourth— Where the principal meal cannot conveniently be taken at noon, the order may be inverted, and the collation taken in the morning and dinner in the evening. Fifth—Dripping and lard may be used in preparing food. Sixth—On Sundays there is neither fast nor abstinence, but fish and flesh meat must not be used at the same meal on any day during Lent. Seventh— Those who are exempt from the precept of fasting m ay eat meat at each meal on the days on which meat is allowed at the principal meal. Eighth— By a special indult granted to the Bishops of the United States, working people who cannot easily ob serve the common law of the Church, are dispensed from the obligation of abstinence on all days o f the year, except Fridays, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and Christmas Eve. This dis pensation does not exempt from the additional obligation of fasting where such exists, nor does it authorize the use of fish and flesh at the same meal. It includes, however, not only the individual workmen in whose fa vor it is granted, but all the members of their families as well. In return it is expected that those who avail themselves of this indult will endeav or to enter into the spirit of the holy season of Lent by voluntary acts of mortification and penance. A most useful and commendable custom is that of abstaining during Lent from stimulants, in honor of thc sacred thirst of our Divine Saviour. —Forward, March! and make way for the birds and buds. in W ILL W R ITTEN IN YIDDISH.
