He was amsted last month and is thought to be the leader of a- gang of thieves. The indictment was squashed upon a motion of Guitzmer’s counsel, 0. E Keae, who claimed that the Court had na jurisdiction in the matr ter. Judge Gifford discharged the accused, but he was immediately re arrested upon a warrant hastily drawn up. It i* alleged that Gui tuner ia aii old offender. His wife, who tried to run away last month with one Freder ick Greeeawald, furnished the authori ties the information upon which the last arrest is based. ; We learn that Guzmer was tried at the town hail, Mount .Vernon,' before a Justice sud a Jury yes^ terdsy. The charges agaigst him' ware numerous. He seems to be a very impartial man in his dealings with; tha people generally. He wfo charged with stealing carriage, cushion* from' Col Vanderburgh, wagon wheels and a grindstone, from ihe Manor Houee, chickens to the value of $25.00, from' Mr. Coles, besides a number of pthfr larcenies.
