The Biogbamtoa Leader says that an Erie freight train left the track at a point hstwet^Q Coming and Elmira Friday morning at about lea o’clock, and a bad wreck ensued. Both tracks were blocked, and trains were sent via the D., L. «& W. between those places for a few hours. No one was hurt. The Delaware and Hudson Canal Co. is building and will so m turn out from its Oarbondale shops six new futnmer cars for use on its Gravity road. The Cold Spring Records says that the Hudson Kiver railroad is to be ballasted with granite, and that the Breakneck breaker is to furnish the material. T h e a n n u a l m e e ting o f th e stock and boadhoUers of the Greenwood Like R lil- road Co., will be held at the Erie depot in Jersey City, May 7 th. A suit was begun in the United States Circuit Court, Tuesday, against the N. Y., L. E. and W. railroad by Edward A. Dolan o f New York city, for the recoveiy of f 50,000 damages for injuries received on Jan. 17th, at Tiffin, Ohio. It is rumored among railroad men that Erie section gangs will be reduced to four men besides the foremen, and that the latter will be expected to work as well as the rest o f the men. The gang at this place now consists of thirteen men and a foreman. If nine of the men are to he laid off, it will either make more work for those who remain or else a propor tionately l«ss amount o f work will be done. No “ rumors” of an increase o f wages has yet been wafted to the ears of the men.- Middletoicn Argus. No organization is becoming more popu lar, or doing more to help its unfortunate members, than the Brotherhood of Rail road Brakeman. Not long ago, if a mem ber lost a limb, the organization paid him $600, and if he were killed, his heirs re ceived the same amount. Then the bene fit was increased to $800 in either event, and this year the amount was increased to $1,000. As Erie fast express train No. 13 was speeding along near Cameron, a small station 18 miles east of Hornellsviile, about 5 o’clock Saturday morning, jjum a lon the tank broke and wrecked the train. The entire tram was ditched, the engine upse% and three cars badly wrecked. ‘W'm. Dacey, the flreman, was badly braised, but it is thought not seri ously. Ohas, Coffee of Wellsboro, the engineer, was hurt badly, but not so seriously as Mr. Dacey.—Susquehanna Transcript. %ntaU 3 o y » Court. wereere t’-reo’-reo littleittle “ kids,”ids,” apparentlypparently They w t l “ k a lust from schod- As a matter of fact they .'hey had been “ xdijdng hookey” from school for more than a veek. The statue of Liberty enlightening the world, which stands on Bedloe’s Island, in the harbor of New York, is one of the most sublime artistic conceptions of mod ern times. The torch of the goddess lights the nations of the earth to peace, prosper ity and progress, through Liberty. But “ liberty” is an empty wora to the thous ands of poor women enslaved by physical ailments a hundredfold more tyranical than Nero. To such sufferers Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription holds forth the promise of a spiedy cure.
