The Pinesvilie correspoadent o£ the Walton i^^?r^er contributes the following i A singular phenomenon occured this spring in March when the ice was going out of the river. The flat or bottom of Burr Gould at such times is partly or ■wholly overflowed. This time of which I write, it was overflowed in low places or draws. 0. A Gould was passing along the road that commands a view of the low grounds, when he heard the report of an explosion and saw the water in one of the low places thrown into the air to a hight of 30 or 30 feet, and for some time after the water boiled and resembled the action j of a large spring as the water forces itself to the surface. After the water subsided, the place was examined and it was found that the ground was rent to a depth of a foot, or as deep as the ground was froz-in, for a space of six feet by fifteen feet, and broken into fragments from a toot to two or three feet square. One piece was thrown entirely out and turned bottom side up. The entire surface that was dis rupted was moved abwUt three inches. The spot was visited by your corres pondent, Tuesday, and it is evident that the power to cause such a disrup'ion of the feozen earth was tremendous. Was it caused by an explosion of natural gas ? An Instance of longevity. A widow, 70 years of age, living in Texas, has a cattle ranch with several hundred head of cattle upon it, which she takes care of personally. She is out in all weathers, and is able to ride a mustang on a full run. The foregoing*has been the rounds of the papers, and many eom- ments have -been made as to the cause of her health and endurance. It is a very simple matter, when it is known that she is constantly supplied with Steele’s Little Bile Pills, which keep her liver in a healthy condition, and induce a healthy circulation of the blood, assuring her a good appetite, good digestion, and conse quently sound sleep.
