T H E rO R T J E R V I S D A I L Y H N I O H , F R I D A Y E V E N I N G . M A R C H 30, 1888. OF IXTKKFST TO WO^TKN. Fashion. 'Notes in l>re8s, in Hous«. Deeor- atious, and so Foi*t1i. Purple bows and the tiny silver orose area pleasant indicatiou of the inorcase of the “ King’s Daughters.” It tvill please p-ospective brides to k n o w it IS the fashion to go oat of the conventional track in wedding presents. Wall-paper inamitacturers have not got to the end of their artistic rope yet, if the newest patterns and styles are a criterion. Dealers say that mahogany is coming back as a fashionable furniture, forgetful of the fact they it never wont out. The giant fairy lamp is something new. In size and brilliancy it compares well with the prize pumpkin exhibited at the country fair. Somebody has made Uie more or less interesting discovery that the sealskin and the oyster seasons close simultaneously without regard to “ Ks.” There is a revolution in brass bird cages or brass cages for birds, and the newest give the canary quite a number of “ mod ern improvements.” M ilady now tells Jeems to order the “ brougham,” not the carriage, which is common. Besides, brougham is especi ally Anglophobish. High-born English women are actually accused of wearing last year’s gown to this year’s drawing room in London. Such economy is really extraordinary. ■\VKOTK HIS OWN OKVTTI NOTiCKs. A im ! Then Took L a m lau m u im d O p e n e d an lA iterj, .and Soon Died. J. S. Kedfield, 79 years o f age, living at Tlireo Tuns, Burlington county, N. J., committed suicide Sunday night. He was a man of refluement and considerable wealth. He was formerly a partner of the well-known publishing firm of Red- field &Oo., of New York. Sunday night after supper he returned to his room and took a dose of laudanum. This he found too slow in its effects, and he opened an artery in his left arm and soon bled to death. In a letter he said : “ Dear Will, I am about to take French leave of you all. You will find my body cold and stiff in the morning. You will Lave to go for the Coroner. After he is done, you will have to take charge of the burial. I re quest no ceremony. Get a plain coiHu. I prefer to be buried in the apple orchard.” No cause can be assigned for the rash act. His wife is an inmate o f the Insane Asylum at 'frenton. He prepared bis own funeral notice to be published in the news papers. Blackbird, son of the famous Indian chief Blackhawk, living at Holor Springs, Mich., has written a history of Ottawa and Ouippewii tribes that will soon be publisbed. Blackbird is a well-educated man, having been a dili gent student at the Ypsilanti Normal School in his yoiUb. He expects to pub lish some day a treatise on the language of his tribe. An Instance o f liongtevlty. A widow, 70 years of age, living in Texas, has a cattle ranch with several hundred head of eattle upon it, which she takes care of personally. She is out in all weatiiers, and is aide to rule a mustang on a full run.
