Page 2 — Banner Times r — Monday, April 4,198$ Logo Adds To Arbor Day Fest Adams — The '88 Adams Arbor Day Festival is adding a special twist to this year's April 23 celebration. Many homes and businesses in the community of Adams will sport an Arbor Day Tree Logo. The logo, made of wood, is approximately 18 inches long and 11 inches wide, and is painted \leaf' green, and \trunk\ brown with white lettering (Arbor Day, Adams, NY). They are appropriately placed on a door, porch or housefront for display. The Arbor Day Tree Logo was designed and produced by Adams residents, William and Herta Wilson. Using the Arbor Day theme, the logo was created with the village's most prominent history in mind, J. Sterling Morton's birthright to Adams and his founding of Arbor Day. The Wilsons chose the \tree\ design to serve as a visual reminder of Arbor Day, the celebration of trees and their importance and value to our quality of life. \We would like to see as many Arbor Day Tree Logos as possible,\ said Mr. Gary Sweet, president of the South Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. Mr; Sweet, owner and operator of Sweet's Barbershop in Adams, isencouraging the Adams business people to join the celebration by purchasing a sign. The cost is $10.70, of which $1 goes to the South Jefferson Chamber of Commerce to help pro- vide funding for the Arbor Day Festival. According to Mrs. Judith C. Mead, public relations director for the South Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, plans for the logo include construction of a large, eight- foot logo to be placed on the Adams Municipal Building, the chamber would also like to add a 'maple leaf to the design of the logo and place these logos on many of the 18th century Victorian homes, stating what year the house was built and giving some historic background. The Adams 100th Anniversary Arbor Day Celebration will feature a crafts fair and street festival on East Church Street, exhibits from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and wood products firms, tree planting ceremonies, children's activities, and a special performance by the 10th Mountain Division Band Of Fort Drum. For more information on the tree logbs and the Adams Arbor Day Festival '88, contact the South Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, Box 73, Adams, N.Y. 13605 or call (315) 232-3032. \THE SOUTH Jefferson Historical Society on East Church Street, where the Arbor Day Festival will be held.
