Page 14 ^ Banner Times - Monday, March 2.^ 1^8 7% VFW Post 7289 The regular meetings of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 7289 and its Auxiliary were held on Wednesday evening, March 16. The ladies' meeting was called to order by President Barbara Katie at 7 p.m. with seven members present. Plans are underway for the Testimonial dinner for Oswego County Comman- der, George Bonney. The dinner will be held in the post rooms at 7 p.m., April 9. The ladies will serve a full roast pork dinner with a cocktail hour from 6 to 7 p.m. Jim and Gladys Green are in charge of the plans. Call the post at 298-2660, or Jim and Gladys at 298-6309, to attend this occasion to honor our own George. Reservations are going fast. The cut-off date is April 2. ^ The ladies' steering com- mittee met, with the fol- lowing slate of officers nominated for next year: president, Gladys Green; senior vice president, Bar- bara Karle; juniorvice presi- dent, Peggy Balcom; treas- urer, Billie White; chaplain, Virginia Worden; conduc- tress, Jody Balcom; guard, Susan Fisher; patriotic in- structor, Kristie Shaw and secretary, Roberta Bonney. The Comrades opened their meeting at 8 p.m. with Commander Edward Hanra- han presiding. Six members discussed sending out newsletters. At the last meeting the Steering Committee met,\ and the following slate of officers were nominated for next yean commander, Eldon Bullis; senior vice presi- dent, Wallace Ward; junior vice president, Paul Hutch- inson; chaplain, Harold White; quartermaster. George Bonney; surgeon, Kenneth Goodway; three- year trustee, Edward Hahrahan; two-year trustee, James Green; one-yeartrus- tee, James LeBeau. Members \are asked to attend elections of officers. The slate of officers will be read at the next meeting, April 6: ladies at 7 p.m. and men at 8 p.m.. Election of all officers will be April 20: ladies election at 7 p.m. and men's at 8 p.m. How your post and auxiliary functions is up to you, the members, not the officers. Please start setting aside the first and third Wednesday of each month for your post. It will only take about three hours out of each month to get our post and auxiliary back the way we were 20 years ago. See you at the post. E0 ^Pineville News By Maggie Scriber March 20 - cold and windy tonight. Tuesday evening, Jenny Hall celebrated, her 12th birthday with a family party. Saturday, she celebrated again with 12 of her friends. Whit and Lois Schouten went for a ride Sunday and saw 35 deer. Wednesday, Bill, Diane, and Cortney Pappa visited his folks, Irene and Ray Pappa. The Dan Riley family had supper out and then went shopping, Friday night Peter Scriber; Margo Rey- nolds, and several friends spent the weekend in Ver- mont, skiing. Andy Rogers called me to say that his wife, Ella, is coming along well at Lee Memorial Hospital in Pulton. She fell March 12 and broke her hip. Stanley and Marion Ben- nett and her brother. Bill Craig, and wife Marion had Sunday dinner together at Tomacy's. Larry and Cathy Gregory and family went shopping at the Fort Drum Commissary Saturday. Inez Trumble said that two car loads of family members went to Chuck E. Cheese, Thursday, to celebrate her County Line Neighbors By Gen Perkins On March 17, William and Georgia Perkins of Lacona, Albert and Sharon Johnston of Mannsville had supper with Albert and I. It was in celebration of Albert's and my 43 years of marriage. Brian Johnston of Manns- ville was an outpatient at Mercy Hospital on St. Patrick's Day. His dad, Albert Johnston, was with him all day. On March 18, Brian Smith of Williamstown spent the weekend with his family at Sandy Creek. Bob and Margaret Dence were at Fort Drum shopping. On March 16, Margaret Dence had a craft group at her home to work on some crafts. There were eight ladies in attendance. St. Patrick's Day supper guests of Bob and Margaret Dence were JoAnne VanRy and sons, Lewis Wilder and son. Randy. Dollie Scheppard is feel- ing much better at this writing. She has been enter- taining the flu bug. On March 19, Floyd and JoAnn Smith took their family to the APW Winter Guard competition. There was a church breakfast at the Sandy Creek Grange Hall at 9 a.m. Ladies from the Harbor of Praise Church had the breakfast Carl and Eleanor Yerdon had supper at the Sandy Pond Sportsmen's Club with Al Thompson. On March 20, Elsie Kehoe spent some time with her granddaughter, Erin Hill, in Binghamton. Erin had the misfortune of hurting her back. Recently, David and Terry Hubbard and children were callers at the home of Carl and Eleanor Yerdon. Dan Yerdon and family of Sandy Creek were dinner guests of Carl and Eleanor Yerdon, March 20. Wonder if it would cure sore hips and knees. Katie Anderson of Mexico stayed overnight Monday with her grandmother, Irene Pappa. Thursday, Jimmy Hiscock flew to Titusville, Fla., for a week's visit with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. WernerKoenig. Chad and Stacey Peyton went to watch the Color- guard Competition at APW High School, Friday night. Mildred Sargent cele- brated her birthday St. Patrick's Day, with a cake made and trimmed by her granddaughter, Kim; flowers from her granddaughters Rhonda and Kim; and a call from granddaughters Sandy- McDonald of Canada and Glenda O'Donald of Syra- cuse. She also received best wishes for many more happy birthdays from her daughter Barb Keeney Glenn and \Bug\. Jim and Minnie Taylor drove up to Sandy Creek High School to see the play \Fantasticks\. They said it was very enjoyable and worth the effort Irene Pappa visited her aunt Gladys Trumble and her folks, Harry and Norma Trumble also, Saturday. Mike Gregory and John Brooks went to play basket- ball in Parish, Sunday. Nathan Reynolds of Orwell visited the Scribers Sunday evening. Steve Reynolds of Pulaski had lunch with us. Dexter Bowers has been entertaining the flu. He will celebrate his birthday March 22 and I hope he feels better by then. Tve seen several robins and red-winged blackbirds, and heard geese, but couldn't see them. Hope they brought some foot warmers along.
