This is why we are asking for your help and praying for breakthroughs to help our daughter, and others, live a less painful life.\ Adopts Landfill Resolution The Executive Committee of the State Fish and WUdlife Management Board has adopted a - resolution regarding the siting of a proposed landfill in Northern New York. Speaking of a site being tested near Rodman in Jefferson County, Board Chairman Roger H. Cole explained that \the resolution urges that full consideration be given to alternate sites, which should be chosen to minimize adverse effects on fish and wildlife habitats and other natural resources of the state.\ Although the Fish and Wildlife Management Board does not normally concern itself with landfills, it has been brought to the Board's attention that the Development authority of the North country is conducting tests on private land which has been reported as a significant wildlife habitat by the Department of Environmental Conservation. Meanwhile there is no evidence that any other sites are being considered for the landfill. The Rodman site, an important deer winter range, is located near a trout stream which feeds Sandy Creek, an important trout and salmon water which flows into Lake Ontarro. While the environmental impact of the proposed landfill is as yet undetermined, the Board is concerned that an environmentally sensitive significant wildlife habitat seems to be the only site which is being looked at for development of the landfill. One Section - 24 Pages Notice Village of Pulaski Police Chief John Wade would like to remind residents that the midnight curfew on South and North parks will be in effect on October 31, Halloween night. Board Withdraws Sale The Pulaski Village Board voted at its October 6 meeting to withdraw the offer to sell a landlocked parcel of land off of the Maple Avenue Extension. The land was originally offered to adjacent property owners by bid, with a minimum amount specified. Randy Newcomb, who was present at the last week's meeting, was the only bidder, submitting a bid for $1,501. The amount was below the minimum specified bid. The matter had been tabled, but was taken off the table for discussion. New information, such as the possible rezoning of the area, and the notification that a 12 inch water main runs under the land, has been made available to the board. \Possibly we would be giving it away for $1,500,\ Trustee Don Crandall said. \Property values are going up. We should probably hang on to it.\ The board also decided to further investigate the v village's access to the land. Mayor Daniel Briggs indicated that he will check with the village attorney at thenext meeting for clarification on whether the issue of sale ended when no one bid the minimum specified amount. In other business, Mayor Briggs and the board commended Police Chief John Wade and his force for effective patrolling during the Salmon Season. Wade reported that village policemen have removed 333 tent campers and others parked overnight on public lands, or private parking lots. He added that 372 parking tickets were issued last month, and two people were arrested for trespassing. \We're trying our hardest to keep things under control during Salmon Season,\ he said. It was also noted that the curfew of midnight to 6 a.m. on North and South parks has been effective so far, and will be enforced on Halloween night. Mayor Briggs outlined requests for Darrell Rupert, fire commissioner, and Connie Haas, commissioner of parks and recreation. Trustee Rupert was asked to meet with the Ringgold Fire Department and act as a liason between the department and the board. Trustee Haas will look into various parking policies, and the use of village land, and recommend any changes at the board's March, 1988 meeting. The board also: - passed a resolution raising the Real Property Exemption For the Aged from $10,500 to $12,025, the same as the Town of Richland and Oswego County. - Voted to transfer about $2,000 of remaining Federal Revenue Sharing Dollars into the General Fund. - Discussed an article in the September, issue of THE BUSINESS JOURNAL that reported favorably on Pulaski's fishing industry. •NEWS DEPARTMENT: 298-5176 FREE READER ADS: 298-4670 BUSINESS DISPLAY ADS: 298-5176 i ».* i ? >.
