The store section recently opened; the restaurant has been in operation for over a month. The Tug Mercantile store is steadily building a stock of groceries and convience items. The opening of a new store will be celebrated with a week-long series of grand- opening specials, May 25 through 31. The store section of Tug Hill Mercantile and Restaurant in Orwell opened just over a week ago. The eatery has been open for over a month. Owners Paul and Molly Wheeler decided to mark the occasion with a series of specials, such as bread, two for $1.; 2 percent milk for $1. a gallon; and Wednesday video rental $1. a day. Anyone who purchases $5. or more in groceries will receive a free large soda from the restaurant. In the restaurant, large sodas will cost only 19 cents during that week. A large pizza will be $ 1. off with their ad; a breakfast of two eggs, toast and coffee will go for $1.20 and the daily lunch special will cost $1.95. The store, which stocks candy, cigarettes, soda, newspapers, milk, dry goods and hardware, is continually increasing in stock. A selection of craft items, made by local residents, will soon be added. The business, located on Main Street, Orwell, is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. The Wheelers, invite customers to stop in, check out their specials and help them celebrate their grand opening. Mrs. Mary Snyder was an overnight guest Thursday of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Barney and son, Allen, in Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Tamblin were overnight guests, Sunday, of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Corbine in Potsdam and on their way home Monday they visited Mrs. Kenneth Price in Gouverneur. Mrs. Sylvia Candle of North Branch, Michigan and Mrs. Adeliah demons visited Mrs. Candle's mother, Mrs. Elsie Janecek, in Oswego Thursday.
