Page-2-Banner Times Monday, May 25, 1987 [ Faces From The Past J Local Families To Host Exchange Students Faces from the past No. 11 from this series of unknown veterans will conclude a very interesting series. The Pulaski Historical Society very much appreciates help from the readers in completing the cataloging of these negatives. We are a long way from our goal of preserving 40 years of photography in Pulaski. Donations are always welcome to complete this series of veterans. Pulaski is very fortunate to be able to preserve these pictures as there was one photographer and these files are available. A special thanks goes to the Banner Times for without their help in printing this column we would find the names very hard to find. There are thousands of negatives and glass plates in this collection. Starting next week we shall start another series of \Faces. \A complete display of over 200 pictures will be on display at the Pulaski American Legion over Memorial Day. On her birthday I shed a few tears. I wish I could have held her and told her all the things a mother should tell her daughter when she turns 10.1 wish I could have dressed her up and put ribbons in her hair, and ridden the merry-go-round with her until we both got sick, then laughed ourselves silly rolling down hills in the park! I also said a little prayer of thanks for having made the decision 10 years ago to give her up for adotpion. 1 was barely 16 and wanted my daughter to have a better life than I could provide for her. I feel confident that the parents who were blessed with hercan give her what I-could not and will love her as much as I did. I pray my daughter realizes that it was not for lack of love that I gave her up, but because my love was brave and fierce and mature enough to let her go when I was but a child myself. I pray that when she is 1R she will decide to look me up through.an adoption search group, and we will meet again. The last time I held her tiny hand she was only 10 days old. Until then, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her parents, and her birthdays will be an especially lonely time for this mom. HOPEFUL IN L.A. DEAR HOPEFUL: Arc you aware that biological parents can register with International Soundox Reunion Registry, P.O. Box 2JJ1 2, Carson City, Nev. 89702? Adopted children may also register, and when (hey become legal age, if both parties are registered and want (o find each other, a match is made. Send a long, stamped, self-addressed envelope to the above registry, requesting Soundex Forms. DEAR ABBY: Problems! Problems! My fiance and I are invited to the wedding of a couple we have known for a long time. They owe us $200. We would ordinarily spend SI00 for a wedding gift, but as long as they owe us $200. we plan to deduct $100 from what they owe us, and call that our wedding gift. How should we word the card? FRIENDS DEAR FRIENDS: You may word the card any way you wish — bearing in mind that any reference to their debt would he in the worst possible taste at this time. DEAR ABBY: My wife insists that it's the man's place to initiate sex. She says if I'm going to wait for her to initiate sex, there won't be any. I'm tired of always being the aggressor. I've told her I would find it exciting if she would approach me for a change, but she says it's not lady-like and she wouldn't feel comfortable making the first move. I nrattSk Rlltlor She nasneve r turned me down, and it's very satisfying LUICU(I OlUier to both of us when it happens, so what should I do? TIRED OF ARGUING Joe Carey [front], Garret VanNess, [left] and Charley Carey are anxiously awaiting the Lura Sharp Elementary School Fair, set for June 6. A raffle for Mickey is only one of the many activities planned for the event. To Retire After twenty-four years of not only dedicated but outstanding service to the Pulaski School District, Loretta Butler will be retiring. The staff has enjoyed its association with Loretta, appreciating her assistance and love of children. On Thursday, June 11, a retirement party will be held at memories restaurant in Pulaski to honor Loretta. Festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. Those friends wishing to attend may make reservations by calling Dee Anderson at the Pulaski District Office, 298-5188. DKAR ITRED: Stop arguing. Your wife is replay- ing the \tapes\ of the old admonitions she heard repeatedly as a girl. (\Nice women aren't supposed to be aggressive — it's unladylike.\) With counseling she will learn that it's OK for a woman to be aggressive in the bedroom. Every- where else she can be a \lady.\ DEAR ABBY: May I sit in your chair and pass on a bit of hard-learned advice? When a couple decide to marry for a second - or third —time, start fresh. Do not move into \his\ house, qr .\her\ house. Sell both houses and start over together in a new housethat will be you r house. There will be fewer memories, fewer quarrels and fewer hurt feelings. I know. LEARNED TOO LATE DEAR LEARNED: How generous of you to take pen ,n hand to give others the benefit of your mistake, am reminded of a saying I heard a long time ago: If we could sell our experience for what it cost us, we'd all be millionaries.\ I I
