Looking on is local Fresh A ir Fund Chairperson Diane Archibee, who is also Adam's mom. A variety of activities have been set for Fiesh Air Fund Week, June 1-7, designated by a proclamation signed last week by Pulaski Village Mayor Daniel Briggs. Chairperson Diane Archibee outlined the schedule of events, beginning with representation, by a float, - in the Lacona Firemen's Field Days Parade, May 30. On June 1, a free screening of the film \Carta\ wUl be offered at the Sandy Creek Town Hall. The movie is the story of a Fresh Air child, and begins at 7 p.m. Popcorn and punch will be available. On June 3, Benefit Bingo will be played at the Pulaski American Legion, with proceeds going to the fund. A Tupperware display will be set up at the hall and proceeds from orders will also benefit the fund. On June 4, the movie \Carla\ will be shown at the Pulaski Knights of Columbus hall. The screening, as well as the popcorn and punch, will be free. The Fresh Air Fund is a program that allows New York City children to enjoy summer in a country atmosphere. Two groups are scheduled to spend two- weeks each in this area. It's not too late to sign up to host a child. For more information, call 387-5278 or 298-6251. America's first extensive hard-surface road was built in Pennsylvania. Completed in 1795, it was known as the Lancaster Turnpike and ran 62 miles. Proclamation Since 1877, more than 1.6 million Fresh Air Fund youngsters have left the streets of New York City for a two week stay in a \Friendly Town\--a community totally unlike the crowded, often dangerous neighborhoods where they live. These children are selected on the basis of need by community agencies in the five boroughs of New York City. The \Friendly Town\ Program of the Fresh Air Fund places these children with host families. Volunteers in the Friendly Proof that America had an early love for chocolate lies in the fact that the country's first chocolate mill was erected in Massachusetts in 1765.
