RECENTLY RECEIVED D BY VARIOUS PUBLIC OFFICIALS - A letter from U.S. Senator \Pat\ Moynihan, outlining his concerns for the highschool drop-out problem,\ so prevalent in nearly every community in our nation. He also outlines new legislation, introduced into the Senate of this, the 100th Congress, for the avowed purpose of helping, and encouraging, young people to stay in school and achieve a com- plete high school education. The library, as well as the Friends, applaud and congratulate the Senator on his efforts. We, perhaps more than others, are in a position to view the effects on society of the current upward swing in numbers of uneducated people throughout our nation. We view the situation as a serious blight, but a correctable one. This is the reason for our continued cooperation with LVA, BOCES, GED, and other such programs. .The Senator's letter, together with a copy of his speech in the Senate, is now posted in the library and copies of both are available to anyone on request.
