Pagc-8-Danner ^imes Monday, September 22, 1986 Craft Cellar Officially Open \*^ *». * *>. v*\*^. *^ £ !* i> \ Shoppers, arrived bright and early opening day to check out the Craft Cellar's in- ventory. A local woman has taken a life-long hobby and turned it into a business venture. Mary Hicks, of Miller Road, Sandy Creek, recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of herr new shop, The Craft Cellar, located in her basement. Active in crafts since' she was five, Mary took her interest, added the need for a place where crafters could purchase supplies, and the C raft Cellar was born. \I originally thought of a consignment shop , she explained. \But there are plenty of those already.\ Mary was involved in Creative Expressions, an outfit that taught lessons and sold supplies in the customers' homes. When the company went out of business last fall, she began to look around for another creative outlet. Her shop stocks supplies for almost any creative hobby; knitting, crocheting, em- broidery, framing, to mention a few one feature is every color, 360, of DMC Floss. Mary admited that although she participates in most of these arts, she isn't proficient in Knitting or tatting. But sV plans to learn soon. Lessons will be ottered through the shop, beginning with punch art in October. Most will be free, she explained, providing students purchase the materials from the shop. The only exception would be in cases where a paid instructor teaches the class, and then a small fee will be charged. Another feature is the shop's \Christmas Cornor,\ that will offer materials to make holiday items. This will be open year round for crafters' cohvience. Mary invites everyone, from seasoned pro to beginners, to stop in and visit tier shop. Even those not involved in a particular hobby may find something to interest them, at the Craft Cellar. Place Boxes The physical education staff at A.P.W. middle-senior high school have placed suggestion boxes in the locker rooms. Students are being asked to give suggestions for programs that they would like to see developed for their physical education classes. A few of the more in- teresting suggestions include self defense, hiking, ice skating, and dancing. Town of Sandy Creek Councilwoman Maryheten J nomas and Councilman Fay Reid, [back] along with Supervisor DarreJl Kehoe [right, front] were on hand September 15 to help Mary Hicks officially open The Craft Cellar. Kehoe cut the ribbon [which was actually DMC floss] with a pair ofsewingjeissors, an opening fitting for a craft shop. It said \Quiet! Vincent Is Welding\. Of course, we know where he saw it. Volvo is recalling 1985 and 1986 DL and GL models because of defective throttle cables. The defect is only a hazard if the car is involved in a low-speed collision, which could cause it to speed out of control. Now that schools have opened, it is time again for Open House night.
