In presenting the honor at the association's inaugural awards banquet in Wolcott, New York, LOCBA President Sam Dattilo ex- pressed the gratitude and appreciation of their board of directors and membership for Voiland's assistance in the development of the Lake Ontario charter fishery. \Lake Ontario charter captains are often called fishing guides by customers and the media, but is there any question about who is considered the 'guide of guides'? That person is Dr. Mike Voiland, who has rendered years of invaluable guidance and information to our industry, as an educator and researcher,\ stated Dattilo. Voiland, who has been stationed at the SUNY Brockport office of Sea Grant Extension since 1976, and has served as an educational resource and catalyst in the development of Lake Ontario's trout and salmon fishery, assisted in the formation of LOCBA in 1980. The association is now a lake-wide professional trade organization of over 225 licensed charter captains. Voiland continues to provide educational programs and research-based information to operator groups on the lake and edits and produces an industry- wide educational newsletter.
