Students Design Flags For Their School Students at Lura Sharp Elementary School recently participated in a school flag contest. A panel of seven judges had the difficult task of choosing a winning design to be sewn in cloth. Some of the flags are held by: winner John Crowley [Mrs. Valerie Nicholson's fifth grade] and honorable mention winners Brian John [Mrs. Juanita Totten's fifth grade] Kathy Holbrook [Mr. Ramon Hiscock's sixth grade] and Niles Linn from Mrs. Totten 's class. The flags will be displayed throughout the school Earns NHS Scholarship Stephanie Pierce Competing against 14,000 students from throughout the United States, Stephanie Pierce, a Sandy Creek Central School senior, has received a Si,000 National Honor Society scholarship, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the L.G. Balfour Foundation. Pierce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. .Andrew, Pierce, Lacelle Drive, Orwell is one of 450 winners an- nounced by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Each high school NHS Chapter could nominate two senior students based on their leadership, scholastic achievement,, character, and service. Nominees submitted a form outlining their participation in school organizations and dubs academic accomplishments, employment experience, and community service. White at SCCS, Pierce has been active in band, chorus, jaz^z band, varsity soccer, IFS and Junior Classical League, and has served as president of the Drama Club and secretary of the National Honor Society. She has been involved in All-County Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra, Area All-State Band and Orchestra and Conference All- State Band. She received a National Merit Letter of Com- mendation, a New York State Regents Scholarship, and a Oswego County Music Educators Association Scholarship. This fall she plans to attend the Eastman School of Musk of th University of Rochester to study music education and bassoon per- formance. Plaque To Be Dedicated The dedication of a plaque in memory of Attorney Lynn Smith will be held May 27 at 7 p.m. in the foyer of the Lura M, Sharp Elementary School. Mr. Smith served the school district, as school board president and school attorney for a total of 51 years. A reception will be held following the ceremony. The public is invited to attend. Saturday eveing Carol Spencer and Betty Newien took their mother Mrs. Monroe Dollinger to mother and daughter banquet in Richland Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe DollingeT were Sunday Mother's Day guest of their daughter Mrs. Phillip Lee and Mr. Lee and son Scon of Sandy Creek. On Monday Mrs. Monroe DollingeT accompanied her daughter Mrs. Betty Newlin to Women's Christian luncheon at Rathaels in Lakeland. Last Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. William Crawford of Spring Brook Apartments spent the evening with Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Dolling er. Mr. and Mrs. Daryi Young from Corpus Cristi, Texas, and baby daughter with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ralph GlenisteT Dariy came to receive his doctorate at Syracuse University. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Geer of Lowvuk called on Mr. and Mrs, Max Geer on Sunday. Mrs. Don Olds took her mother Mrs. Viola Armstrong from Mexico to breakfast on Mother's Day. She reported they had a hard rain when she got there but have had none since. Monday, May 19, 1986 Banner Tiroes-Page Big Memorial Weekend Planned At Fairgrounds The first long weekend is coming up on May 24, 25 and 26 when the \Spring Craft & Fun Days\ take place on the Oswego County Sandy Creek Fairground. Sponsored by Sandy Creek Grange to benefit the Fair Association, the affair also has the support of several organizations. Admission and parking are free; buidlings open 10 to 5 each day. Every day you can see and hear the old gas engines \putting away\ down by the Pomona Chicken Shack. Bring your engines, Bob Henderson and Niles Burkhard are in charge, and they will help you set up. The Sandy Creek Grange will have their stand open early every day with lots of good food all day - good pie too. The Oswego County Pomona Grange will be ready at noon with their famous chicken barbecue every day at the chicken shack, offering a complete meal or just chicken. Rollo Rowe and his tearr. are ready for a busy summer of barbecue's. Rollo reminds us that the grange supports the farmers efforts with the sale of milk, at the Sandy Creek Grange Stand and the \Chicken Shack\. The Sandy Creek Grange and Pomona Grange donate all of their, profits from the Craft Days to the Fair Association. May 24 starts off with the Annual Spring Horse Show at 9 a.m. There is also an auction on the fair ground when the Krakau Implement Co. will sell off trucks, trailers, machinery and parts. At 1 p.m., Alice Bacon and Maurice Hurd will entertain with a fun-fest of old favorites. Come and join in. May 25 is Children's Day. The pet show starts at 11 a.m. (sign up at 10 a.m.) dress up your pet for the parade and win $15 first, $10 second or $5 third prize. The costume class will immediately follow the Pet Show. All kids are welcome. At 1 p.m. \The Salmon River Boys\ will play in concert, in a family-type show; free of course. May 26 features a \Mud Run\ by the Sandy Creek Fire Devartment, with Jerry Thomas in charge. It will include drag racing, third and fourth wheelers, dirt bikes, two and four-wheel-drive trucks. It will be held on the grand stand, about noon, Jerry says. At 1 p.m. \The Banjo Strummers\ will present a free show with a new sound for the Craft Days. Be sure to attend. The Arts and Crafts will be varied this year with lots of new artists. Two buildings will be used for crafts and one for flea markets and antiques. They come from all over the area. ' The Pulaski Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerrce will take part in the three-day event with a \cake wheel\ to help out the fair. \You may take home your dessert for 25 cents \says Sue Bitz, chairman.\ \In fact, you may even find a pie or two in this cake wheel\! Be sure and stop by. At the close of the event, there will be a drawing for a VCR and a microwave oven for two lucky people, to benefit the Fair Association. Sherrie Mills First Field Days Set In Lacona The Lacona Volunteer Fire Department is holding its 19th annual Field Days May 30, 31 and June 1, first of the season. We are sure this years field days will be bigger and better than ever befo^. Each day includes pfenty of chicken, cold beer, hamburgeri, hot dogs, and clams. Fabulous live entertainment will be provided each day for your dancing and listening pleasure. Don't forget when you drop by to pick up your raffle tickets on an RCA Pro Wonder Camcorder and VCR recorder package. We hope to see you at our Lacona Firemen's Fidd Days 1986. Also included is a giant firemef's parade, a tug-of-war contest, and pushball. Sherrie Mills, daughter of Howard and Caroline Mills of Sandy Creek, has achieved recognition on the fall and winter uarter dean's honor list of Cedarville College with a grade point average of 4.0. Miss Mills is a junior in criminal justice-psychology major at Cedarville College, Cedarville, Ohio. Attends Seminar Miami Beach, Florida-Darryl and Anna Rupert of Pulaski, were among 42 Lincoln Logs dealers and distributors from across the nation who attended the original Lincoln Log's eighth annual sales seminar at the Fountainbleau Hotel here.
