Page-16-Banner Times Monday, May 19, 1986 Pull Over And Stop! Red lights and sirens mean help is on the way. But what if help doesn't arrive in time? It could happen if you don't yield to an emergency vehicle as the law requires. When you see the flashing lights or hear the siren of an am- bulance, police car or fire vehicle, you must pull over carefully, stop, and wait until it passes by, even if you are on the other side of the road. Don't delay help on the way to people in trouble. Obey the law - pull over and stop! This important traffic safety tip is brought to you by the department of motor vehicles and this newspaper. Honored At Surprise Luncheon Proposed Budget Approved At the regular business meeting of the Sandy Creek Central School Board of Education, on May 8 a tentative budget for the 1986-87 school year was approved, as was the appointment of James J. Beardsley to the position of Junior-Senior High School Principal. Formal announcement was also made of the candidacies of Joel Hastings and Gary Rempe to succeed themselves as board members, each for five year terms. 86-87 Budget The new budget bears a tentative total of $5,666,583, a $406,124 increase over the current year's figure. While this is a 7.7 percent raise in the school budget, it does not signify a tax increase for district tax payers. According to District Superintendent Jerald Quimby, increases in the State aid for SCCS offset the higher costs imposed by implementing the Regents Action Plan. New Jr.-Sr. Principal Mr. Beardsley, who is currently the Assistant Junior-Senior High School Principal at Lowville Academy and Central School, a position he has held since August 1984, will assume his duties at SCCS on July 1st. This will enable him to work with his predessessor George O'Sullivan for several weeks before Mr. O'Sullivan's retirement officially begins. Beardsley's work experience has included supervisory positions with two Watertown manufacturers, as well as tenured teaching positions at North Junior High School, Watertown and in 5th and 6th Grades at H.T. Wiley Elementary School, Watertown. He received his Masters in Educational Administration and the,Certificate of Advanced Study at State University College, Oswego in July 1984. He did graduate work in education at State University College at Pot- sdam from 1973 to 1976 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Science at SUC at Oswego in 1973 where he was on the Dean's List and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society. He also attended Jefferson Community College at Watertown, receiving his Associate in Arts degree there in May, 1971. Mr. Beardsley also served in the United States Air Force from January 1966 to January 1970, receiving an Honorable Discharge as Staff Sargeant. Other Business In other business the Board accepted the resignation of Anita Jones as Special Education Teacher, effective July 1,1986. An appointment for that position has yet to be made, and the position of Secondary Instrumental Music Teacher has also to be filled. Meeting & Election The District's Annual Meeting is set for 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 1986 in the High School Auditorium. This is for the pur- pose of public review of the proposed budget. The Annual Voting will be held from 12 Noon to 9 p.m., Wed- nesday, June 4, 1986 in the Sandy Creek Elementary Gym. Voters will elect two five-year members to the Board of Education and decide on the 1986-87 Budget on that date. Seminar Scheduled Pulaski Loves You! Regional Planning Board Discussed The Sandy Creek Town Board discussed the Sandy Creek Regional Planning Board at their regular meeting, Thursday May 8. It was noted that only seven of the 11 available board seats are filled, and that only four members at- tended the last meeting. During a discussion of those vacancies, councilwoman Maryhelen Thomas said that she felt that there is a \very serious problem with the planning board,\ and that perhaps part of the problem was that they repeatedly face \... opposition to their plans.'' Supervisor Darrell Kehoe agreed, adding that members may feel that \their efforts are...to no avail.\ He also explained that the towns five allotted seats are .currently filled. A letter from the Lacona Village notified the town that, effective Dec. 31, 1986, their fire contract with the Lacona Fire Department will be terminated. Citing in- creased liability costs, they also asked for an increased amount of $6,534; almost double the original figure, in future contracts. A similar letter from the Village of Sandy Creek was read. They requested a \0Vi percent increase in their fire contract. This would raise the cost from $4,538 to just over $5,000. No action was taken on either of these letters at that meeting. The question was raised as to why the minutes or town meetings aren't sent to local newspapers. After much discussion, it was agreed that the newspapers could be responsible for obtaining the minutes from the clerk. The town will receive $i6,103 in federal revenue sharing funds, it was announced. Members voted to approve a resolution offering support of the CHIPS Consolidated Highway Assistance Program. A note was recei ed from the cleaner of the town hall, B. White, resigning from that position. The Board expressed their appreciation for her work. A letter from Marge's Pizzeria notified the board that the establish ' •* has applied for a summer liquor license. The town agreed to advertise for bids on a 2 wheel-drive or 4 wheel- drive truck. The board's next meeting will be May 12.
