Michael was a student at the Palermo Elementary School. Nineteen-month-old Melissa Battles, daughter of Ms. Robin Battles of Fort Leazier, was the red ribbon winner in the \Friendliest\ category at the recent Oswego County Fair Baby Contest at Sandy Creek. Heather lives with her parents, Mr. and Mrs: Kenneth Finch, on Vailland Road, Parish, and caught her jchampion in a farm pond. The Mexico Historical; Society has now resumed their regularinonthly meetings. The September meeting was a most interesting one, with the guest of the evening, Ms. Mary Lou Ratcliff, showing, - and displaying the Kewpie dolls of designer Rose Cecil O'Neill. The Kewpie dolls reached their peak of popularity during the \flapper\ r era ' f^mJWtM^Mmi popularity among collectors. The meeting was held at the Wilcox Building of the Presbyterian Church. The com- mittee always arranges to have an entertaining program, and the public is invited to attend the meetings, which are held the second Thursday of each month. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Towne, of RD 1, Lot 13, are the parents of a son, born on Saturday, August 17. The STP Corporation of Boca Raton, Florida, has announced a recall of mis-labeled plastic containers of STP Heavy Duty Brake Fluid. The cans contain Power-Steering Fluid rather than brake. They are 12-ounce con- tainers, and carry the code number GM 418 on the bottom, and were shipped to suppliers during January and February of this year. Use of the contents will cause the loss of braking power. If you have any with the given code number, return it to the dealer. The RENEW faith-sharing groups of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church of Mexico, will resume their home gathering meetings for six weeks, beginning on Sunday, October 13. Ms. Carol Pond is coordinator of RENEW for St. Mary's parish, and can he contacted at 963-7182 for further information. Halley's Comet is now a smudge that can be seen only by astronomers, but will be visible to the naked-eye by March. The brightest sighting will be April 11, when it will be closest to earth, and on its way on the outbound leg of its orbit. Good viewing is expected to be difficult, but not impossible, if you know where to look. Amateurs should look through binoculars rather than a telescope, and allow their eyes to adjust to the darkness for about. 20 minutes before viewing. Yoti should also be lights for a really good view. Otherwise, travel to Alice Springs, Australia where it will pass directly overhead. I think the bottom line is \don't get your hopes up\ that you will see it at all, despite all the publicity we will be overwhelmed with as it approaches.
