It's still very hot and humid in and around here. A few showers in the late afternoons. The highs have been in the 90s and lows late at nighf about 80 degrees. Maude's Memo Redfield Village The Redfield Redskins and supporters toured Long Lake on July 20 to 21, after winning first place in pushball. They went to the dump and saw thirteen wild black bears. There were three bear cubs that the mother bear made go up a big old pine tree while she fed at the dump. Debbie and Pat left their cameras behind so they didn't get any pictures. The bears were really close and they could've gott- en some good pictures. Melanie, Lorinda, Scott, Russell, Shawn, Tiger Montieth, Brian Rogers, Georgie Darling II, and their parents; Bob Bush, Henry Tanner and Kevin Harvey all enjoyed watching the bears. Sunday, Gene Babcock, Bob Bush, Georgie Darling II, Kevin Harvey, Shawn, Tiger, Lorinda, Scott Montieth, Brian and Earl Rogers flew in the sea plane and toured Long Lake for about 20 minutes. They will have it drawn down to 18 inches following Pulaski Ringgold's Tube Races so they can start repairs on the dam on August 7. It really seemed nice and it was pretty looking across the pond when the water was up. Guess if we want the dam safe we have to put up with low water since the flood on Dec. 29, 1984 really threatened the cement structure. I know a lot of people have to be careful of their wells when the pond is low and conserve water. Ricky Fox's and Ed Montieth's wells have both gone dry on July 27 and 28. The Braes will be having an Open House and reception to meet the new workers Tom and Cheri Howell and Pam Cornell. Everyone is invited to attend between 1 and 4:30 p.m., Sunday, August 18. Tom and Cheri Howell will be living at Orchard Hill and Pam Cornell will be staying at the Staff House at the Edrington where Lorraine and Ron Hodge live. Don Plummer is living at Stony Brook Farm and of course Sally Montieth is still assistant manager in the Braes kitchen, and Liz Grant, is also kitchen staff. Mr. Reuben Harvey is a patient in the Rome City Hospital. He had his leg amputated at the knee on July 23. Reuben is a brother to Louis and Vivian Harvey of Redfield. He was doing quite well following surgery and is waiting to be fitted to a leg. Good luck to you, Reuben. The Oswego County D.P.W. has completed some of their work on the northern section of County Route 17. They put down black- top, new shoulders on the road, black-topped Castor Road to the bridge that they put in since the flood last December and they black-topped the Little John Drive. They hope to pave some of the Ryan Road this summer, too. The Redfield Volunteer Firemen made repairs and enlarged an overhead door at their station the week of July 23.
