Hi, Neighbor bv Barbara Morgan J#?, Jerom e J o h n s o n : A Christm a s Rush Nobody is more aware that Chnstmas is just a few days away than Jerome Johnson, postmaster of the the Palmyra Post Office on Cuyler Street Except, perhaps, for his stafT of 18. who are busy handling about a 25 per cent increase in volume dunng the holiday season rush. ‘Normally, we average about 40.000 letters and flat* lover sized let tcrsi in our dailv circulation com mented Johnson Beginning as a mail handler dt the main post office in Rochester in 1969. .Johnson was boon promoted the supervisor at the Henrietta Office in 1977 There he aquired the nickname JJ' by his co workers Born in Sanford Ronda, than 40 years ago . Johnsons parents are a dentist and Licensed Practical Nurse One of four children he recalls his parents pushing and teaching him to be independent ■They were acheivers and expected nothing less from me 'ohnson recalled fondly Raised in Rochester. Johnson graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1970 and Monroe ■ Community College in 1972 That s when I received Ford Foun dation scholarship to continue a higher level of education and majored in Educuation at Brockport State Col lege said Johnson There he earned a bachelor s degree and a master s degree in Education My thoughts initially were to con tinue my education in pre law but in stead I decided to go in a different career direction stated Johnson By working part time in the poastal service as a college student, sorting mail I became quite content with the work and have never regretted my decision' he said Johnson met his wife.
