ONLV YULETIDE SPIRIT BACKFIRES A man who tVied ^ ' jiiy’ the role of the Good SaWarltah’ found his actions backfired early Sunday morning. Daniel Maynard, a Rochester business proprietor, was traveling out of that city when he rescued two hitch hikers from an early morning, freezing rain. Maynard, who described the hitch hikers as male and in their late teens, drove the pair to Palmyra where they asked to be let out in front of the police department. A few minutes later Maynard noticed that a “Banker’s Trust” money bag containing $40 in change was taken from his car. Maynard said that both hitch hikers were about 5’7” tall. He said that one was wearing a brown coat and had “long, fuzzy blonde hair.” He said that the other had dark hair “ and a boil on his left cheek.” Ptlm. Fred Trowbridge in vestigated the incident which is still being pursued by the Palmyra Police Department. Ten hours earlier Sgt. Delbert Dagel and Ptlm. Grant Furman apprehended two 16 year-old Marion youths who were charged with shoplifting at Breen’s Supermarket, Palmyra. The two now face court action for their alleged thefts. One was charged with taking playing cards, wrenches, tape, gloves, and paper plates (total value-$5.65) from the market. The second was charged with taking a pair of child’s slippers valued at about $1.50. A brief-but impressive- service preceded the official signing of contracts totalling $226,000 to erect a new two-story addition to the Western Presbyterian Church.
