Excellent Art Exhibits Shown in Warsaw Stores Warsaw merchants cooperate nicely with organizations and in dividuals who have art work for sale or display. A few weeks ago the windows of Boldt Company on Main street exhibited paintings executed by Mrs. Emma Cross. Recently, the Girl Scouts arranged a showing of their clever hand work in the win- 'dows of the Rochester Gas and Electric Company. For several days past Mr. Dohse has shown in his window a num ber of sketches and paintings done by Mrs. Ethel Duggan. Both Mrs. Cross and Mrs. Duggan show un usual talent which was partially developed under the direction of Myra Bartlett at the Adult Edu cation Class. Their is an adage to the effect that busy people find time to do most things; this certain ly is true in the cases of our two artists. Mrs. Cross has raised family and now has a full time position as a secretary. Mrs. Dug gan has a full schedule with her high school son and two small and lively boys to care for as well. In addition to their avocations, both women find time for church and civic work. The current showing • by Mrs. Duggan reveals versatility, em bracing water color, oil and pencil sketches. These range through many subjects. Outstanding are the church where Holy Night was composed and a view from the East Hill of our own St. Michael’s spire. Mrs. Duggag reports that she was waiting for a train to Gainesville one evening and made a sketch of the impressive spire on the back of an old bill she hap pened to have in her pocket. Her sketches in a lighter mood include very appealing animal studies, land scapes and flower pictures. Mrs. Cross and Mrs. Duggan both excell in flower studies. Procedure The postmaster has a responsi bility, under his oath of office, to bar all material, such as described, from the mails. However, it is im possible to scrutinize each piece of advertising that passes through the office. • I am, therefore, placing the re sponsibility on the advertiser who prepares the copy and on the pub lisher who accepts it to see that no material such as we have here discussed enters the mails. I ask you readers to bear in mind that the above is not an attempt to dis cuss lotteries as such, or to explain Juccl ordinances. State or Federal law. as they apply to lotteries. It is merely a di.-cussion nf advertising matter, entering the U. S. mails. In going to such length in bring ing these items to you, I do so with ■the intention of doing away with the nuisance of chasing down un mailable matter and arguing with advertisers and publishers over material which cannot pass thru the mail. I sincerely thank you for the space you have devoted to this and thanks, also for the many ques tionable items you have brought to my attention in \the past. We now have the answer to them and I know you are as happy about that as I am.
