' W ilkes -B arre , Pa., Dec. 18.—The victims of the Mud Run disaster here have decided to prosecute the Lehigh Valley railroad em ployes under the act of 1865, instead of for manslaughter. If convicted under this act the employes responsible for the wreck can 'be sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and to pay $5,000“ fine. Joseph Cook, the en gineer who ran his train into tlie one ahead, is losing his mind through sorrow, fear of punishment and inability to get employment. The Jamestown Regulators. - Jamestown, N. Y., Dec. 17.—The investi- gation of the Whiteeap raid of Friday night is still in progress hut nothing new has devel oped. The affair is thought by some to be a hoax. Nothing definite hAyet known of the outrages alleged, to h&va bem near the city. - A R a t a l D u e l W i t h K n iv e s . W h e e l i n g , W. Va., Dec. 18.—A telegram from Berkley Springs narrates a fatal en counter at Howard’s Chapel, Morgan county, between two young men armed with knives. George Mason and John Lamp engaged in a fight about a w a t c h t r a d e a n d M a s o n drew a knife and attacked Lamp, stabbing him in the shoulder. Lamp defended himself with a like weapon, and the two men cut and slashed each other in a terrible manner in the darkness. Both were repeatedly cut and were bleeding freely when Lamp ran his knifff blade through Mason’s neck, ending the impromptu duel. Mason died instantly. Willie was skating on Hale’s pond; two little tots; aged 5 and 3, asked Willie to pull their sled. He did so, and darting away with his precious freight soon saw a hole yawiung before him. Too late to escape. He swiftly turned the sled to one side. It passed by, the little ones were safe, but tbe young hero could not save himself.
