Railroad facilities generally are a great factor ^oS of necessities and they are short at the lowest estm.ate 100,000 frei^rht cars, 5,000 locomotives, and 4,000 passenger cars. The west side^of the City should be built up with warehouses, truckmg would be relieved and haulage restricted.\ What President Smith states as essential to economy in New York Citv, already exists on Staten Island so far as the flour situation is concerned. The large warehouses of the Tanner-Gross Company are located at a spot convenient for the receipt of flour by rail or water, and for the redistribution of that flour by rail, water, or motor truck. The existence of such a large and up-to-date plant as that of Tanner- Gross and Company in New Brighton, is a step in the direction indi- cated by Mr. Smith-a step many years in advance of the condition w hich lias been allowed to exist in our sister borough Manhattan. Staten Island, however, so far as the commodity flour is concern- ed has started in the right direction. Besides the tremendous protec- tion afforded to the borough by the existence of this ample and well filled reservoir of vital foodstuffs, there is the added efficiency and economy of anticipating future needs. The big plant at New Bright ton is d^idedly an asset and a safeguard to this community. s-.V [SCSfT' itv. - •• ••'•-•\••• iESES. Plaat Located at New Brishton, S. L The Advanet Adverti»lf>B Sarvlea.
