Misses Mary Dodds and Ma- bel \W;. Moyer, of Hammond, spent last week with their friend, Miss Lulu Allen, Miss Alice Spratt, accompa- nied- by her nephew, Daniel Spratt, of Ogdensburg, are vis- iting friends in this place. Misses Nell E. Allen and Maggie L. Laidlow are visiting friends in Redwood and Phila- delphia. Ice cream parlor open every Saturday evening, at the head of Main street. AMICUS. PERSONALS. FROM ALL OVER. Spencer H. Ladd, of Her- mon, has assumed the position of landlord of the Cline Ho- tel. Henry Palmer, of Plumb Hollow, Ont., with his familv, went to church last Sunday evening and left the door un- locked. They left on the table a quantity of milk which they intended to drink on their re- turn. Mrs. Palmer, on looking at the milk, remarked that there was something wrong, so it was thrown into a pail. Next morning a dog drank from the pail and died almost immediately. — Mrs. Benj. Burton, of Ogdensburg, spent Sunday in iftmmond. —Messrs. Frank aaH Edward Hill left on Saturday for their homes in Neb- raska, after spending less than a week with friends in Hammond. —Mr. and Mrs A. JFashburn are iu town. —Daniel Oooney, Esq., of Syracuse, arrived iu .Hammond on Tuesday last, on a visit to Mrs. H. Gallagher and family. —Hon. Charles Lyon, ex-mayor of Ogdensburg, was in Hammond on Monday last. Mr. Lyon is one of the men that never grow old. He walked from his mill, near Rossie 5 tation, to Hammond, a distance of 4| miles aud arrived at his destination without show- ing the slightest signs of benig'tired. Allen claimed them as his Fresh Air children. Any way the girls say they had a splen- did time, lots of Fresh Air, and that Mr. Wm. /lllen's is the place to go to have a good time. —sirs. Helen Hinsdale Rich luctured at Morristown on Saturday evening un- der the auspices of the G. A. li. The lecture is reported as having been very interesting aud the audience large aud appreciative. Courtney won a single Scull race, near Baltimore on Thursday lust, defeating Geo. W. Lee and Albert Z/iinim. The 'listiiuce was three miles with three turns, Time 19 minutes, 35 sec. On Monday, 19th. hist., Ross and Lee defeated Courtney and Teenier m a double scull race over the same course on which Courtney defeated Lee the previous Thursday. Allowing that Courtney vows as well on Monday as he does on Thursday, this would indicate that Ross could easily defeat Teemer. Frank Moyer left at this office last Saturday two potatoes weighing 17 oz., and several more weighing 1 pound. AT E. E.
