The book exp lains how this Corporation selects its second mortgages , appraises the properties to estab- lish s afety, verifies the titles , checks the pay ing ability of its mortgage owners , arranges the mortgage reduction installment payments < collects the interest and handles its other new way safety methods of operation. A few years ago the United States Bon d & Mortgage Corporation entered the mortgage I industry, doing bus i ness in both firs t and second mortgages. It found the first mortgage field overcrowded; it found the second mortgage field in a chaotic condition. It organized a large 1 Board of Directors and Stockholder A ppraisal Committees composed of bankers , business men , realtors and builders of wide experience and expert knowled ge in the mortgage field. It worked out , perfected and establ ished its own pioneer standardized policies and prac- tices that have changed the whole second mortgage industry and made it one of the mast promising new fields of investment . This leadershi p broug ht outstanding success . I So far it has confined its operations to the purchase of selected , amortized second mortgages ||j on private homes of the bette r type. These have continued to flow toward it in such volume that it has twice been compelled to increase its cap ital to cope with the situation.
