A Y. b u s in e s s ' C a r d s , W ° The Haunted Haute mar Enel St. Louie— A Child's Spirit in Blue —it Talks Laughs, and Cuts up Numerous Pranks. East St. Louis has a veritable sensation. Not a criminal Incident, not an outre acci dent, bu t a bnunted house. It is not ex actly in St. Louis, but near enough to be easily accessible, and sufficiently peculiar in the character of its bauntiDgs .to excite a vast amount of comment a n d even no small amount of excitement. The spirit possessed mansion is situated on the Belleville road, a little over two miles from East St. Louis, is a sm all frame house, on what is known as the Bobbineaux 'arm, and is occupied by Mr. V. Bcnneti and family, and is a little w ithdraw n from the road. It is now some time ago sinct tbe first alleged spiritual manifestations oc curred, but more recently the noises ond voices havo grown louder and more fre quent, until the tame thereof has run thro’ St. Clair county and further. The produciog cause ot all tins commo tion is said to he the spirit of a little girl in bluo who or which is frequently visible lo a little girl o f Mr. Bennett’s family. A cur ioub feature of the affair is, that th e opera tions o f the spirit or spirits arc n o t confined to tbe night, bu t occur in open day. Coats and other garments hung on hooks in tbo wall are seen suddenly to drop to the ground, then egain thoy will move slowly ap again and and regain their position on the hook. Noises are heard, scratching noises, as il a child’s finger tips were being drawn over the dry plaster of the ceiling a n d walls.— Disturbances will be heard in tho garret, hut uj>on running np there i t will be lotiad empty and Bilent. A child’s voice is rcpor ted to bo often heard—a merry voico sug gestivo of mischiovouu pranks. Nay, more ; t ie firmly alleged that tho voice answers I questions—not difficult queries, bu t such as could bo answered by any ordinary young girl. Bomotimca the voice is a faint elfin whisper, then cgain moro clearly a genuine human voice. It will keop up a dialougue sometimes, and at others will only speak in sentcncos to be nudiblo to particular persons. This saucy spirit, howovor, goos further and pulls the chil dren's dresses and disturbs furniture. On omc' loftiow good reapooalblolmia i Friday, as is reported, one of tho little girls was coming iu from tho well, a n d could, hardly get along, owing to “tho way tho thing was pulling m e.” As above indicated, one oi Ihe family, a little girl avers that sho 6ces tho spirit It. is that of a little girl about twelvo years ot \8. The house is a small liim c building composed of tw o rooms and a garret overhead. W h at had becomo of them I No onffcould tell; only they aro gone. Entering into a conversation “ with tho spirit,” wo wero told who wo were, where we came from, snd what our business was. Littlo Hattie, the child of Mr. Bennett, is tbo only person who can see tho wonderful specter, whom she defines as being a child of, apparently about twelve years of ago, dressed in a blue merino frock, with furs, bonnot, a n d cloak. Clothes, articles of fur niture, barrels of flour, and in tact, every jnovablo object w ithin tho house has been removed from its position. Doors are opened, u n h u n g and rem o v ed; lights blown out arc relighted ; garments on tho family aro repeatedly pulled snd bandied, and something is awaiting & dem o n stration; and— Here o u r commuuication breaks ofl. ' Such being the position of m atters, no doubt the house will be haunted by hosts of visitors. Tbe family is described as simple rural household, and totally unable to understand the so-called manifestations thomselve3.
