The State ne#d» an e*ej?utJYe more than an executive budget.\ '\Under Pensocr§tic rule the Empire State be- came the protagonist of progress. The Whit- man administlration has made, it the refuge of reaction.\ These two sentences are the pitch of the Democratic Stpte Platform adopted by the Saratoga conference. The indictment against Governor Whitman is sustained by an unaps- warable ; ,aHrajr 'of fa^ts and figures, What it; come* ^ is simply this* that if the election notice* told the whole truth they*wtwM< call lor w n governor to fill the vacancy caused by Charl«f §, Whitman.\ The platform tersely reviews the construc- tiya record of the Democratic party when in power and makes specific pledges as to the fu- ture. It is less a partisan platform than the Complaint of a commonwealth. We hope every- body will read it, It is brief and to the point. It is the case of the State against Whitman- ism. The Democratic party asks the people to clean house because it is their house—because it is the peovle's, tenants at the State Capitol Who have abused the public patience beyond endurance. » ' \CIUKMB VmvlAS\ AMI VIVIAJT MUlTJbV WK1HW8DAV lHAfllTKK AM> amm 'AH mTTSJIUJtGH TJI>;AI*KK.
