To bring about his ideal of what his patrons have a right to demand many thou- sands of dollars have been spent in remodeling and refurnishing the store and block which he utilizes in the various departments of his business. If such a thing is possible, perhaps he may be classed as an extremeist on notions of sanitation and purity. When he bought the new fountain the best made was none too good and beauty, symmetry and the sanitary were combined. Delicately chiseled tile, white marble and mahogany are employment of an even dozen assist- ants. It is not saying too much when the statement is made that it is the fineSv drug store in the State. As the proprietor, \V. D. Jaques, takes more than an ordinary interest in the affairs of the City we append some of his activities. He left the Pittsburgh High school in 18!>o to ac- cept a position as clerk wi h H. \\V. Cady, in lfloi) a stock company was formed by the admission of Mr. Cady's Ron, Theodore W. and vV. B. Jaques. This was continued until Jan., l!n:i, when Mr. Cady and his son, having de- termined to retire, Mr. Jaques became sole owner. Since then the business of tho store has doubled in volume. In 1915 he was prevailed upon to fill the vacancy as president of the Cham- ber of Commerce, and put he same vim into its operations as has char- acterized his own business.
