D Y E STUFFS, POETRY, House Cleaning- There is a song which most men have the, ‘burthen” ready in their hearts, and we think it iS-^pretty well sung in tlieiEvening Telegraph, “ The melanoholy .days have come, the sad dest of the year,” Of cleaning paint and sorubhing floors, and scouring far and near; Heaped in the corners of the dirt lay quiet. TM Mfettey Phases of Coin and Paper- It is a rather curious fact that the only coin now in current use on this continent, which is not round, is the fifty dollar gold- piece struck in California, which is octagon- a! in shapd. All the coins in Europe are others without, a laurel wreath., The most beautiful silver coinage is that of Hdssia; each piece being in itself a work of act, so finely and elaborately is the die cut- On the pther hand, the ugliest silver coinage is that of the free city of Hsmhurg: each piece, adulterated and poorly cut, is usually to be found encrusted^with d|rt and filth and loosing like a refuse fragment of tin, The silver coinage of Germany fa bad also. In Italy—excepting the portions subji^t to the Pope and the Empert the franc piece is tafeiiig fl: mer coins, though the local coinage of the former duchies of Parma and Modena still infests those portions o f the country. Yet p 'p T he I ncome T ax .—The Washingtou' correspondent of the Commercial Advgrtr ft-er writes that there is a wide difference of opinion in Congress on the propriety <> graduating the income tax by an ascending ratio. The House decided that 5 per cient should he paid on all income over S6p0 aud under $10,000, and 10 per cent, on the ex cess over $10,000. The Senate has re-’ duced the 10 jier cent, to 7 l-2jper cent,,- and many Senators disjre to tax income un-‘ der $600.
